Rating: Summary: Contains One of the Most Erotic Sex Scenes Ever Written Review: Okay, who cares about the rest of the book, the sex scene in Rosnard's office is so BURNING HOT that it alone is worth the price of the book. One thing about Linda Howard -- this woman knows how to write scorching sex. I thought AFTER THE NIGHT and SHADES OF TWILIGHT were erotic, but though there's less sex overall in this book, that one scene is the most starkly erotic thing Linda Howard has ever written. I've always enjoyed her books as romances, but this one made me wonder if maybe she has missed her true calling and should be writing erotica.
Rating: Summary: The Third One's the Charm Review: This is the third book I've read by Ms. Howard, and I must say that I now see what all the fuss is about. "Now You See Her" and "Mr. Perfect" were both tremendous disappointments in the plot department, although the sex was good. In this book, she has redeemed herself in my eyes. In the future, I will look for her adventure/thriller novels as opposed to her romance-driven ones. I found this book to be a page-turner---I could not put it down! I became entranced and entangled in the lives of Niema and John and, later, Rosnard. I found the characterizations to be well drawn and engaging. I found her writing to be sophisticated and engrossing. (Her style actually reminded me of the old Sidney Sheldon...)And I appreciated that Niema's character did not mirror the brazen, brassy, ballsy, vitriolic heroine of "Mr. Perfect." I was most thankful for that. I appreciated the sexual angst surrounding the build-up to Niema's and John's first sexual encounter. Best sex scenes: between the guard and the secretary (some slight S/M for you kinky folks out there!) and the couch scene where Niema and John are doing some fierce "undercover" work as they prepare themselves to get caught...talk about chair-gripping tension! I was riveted to the page. Yes, it was *sex* as opposed to *making love*, but I found it plausible given the context of the situation. As for some reviewers who have criticized the ending and wondered why "did they leave the yacht to go sightseeing" I believe that the author used this as a literary ploy in order to re-introduce Rosnard into the picture. I, too, found the action onshore a bit *unbelievable*, but was able to reconcile my disbelief with what I believe were the author's intentions to move the story along to its conclusion. All in all, a very good read.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Romantic Suspense Novel Review: Agent John Medina (introduced in Kill and Tell) finally meets his match in Niema Burdock, a former agent trying to get on with life after losing her husband in a secret mission gone wrong. The chemistry between Niema and John builds right away, making it almost impossible to put the book down. The main story line of John and Niema infiltrating the home and life of bad guy Louis Ronsard is a little hard to swallow at first but moves along nicely thanks to the fast-paced action and interesting supporting characters. I was somewhat disappointed by the "convenient" wrap up with Ronsard at the end. All in all, however, I did enjoy this book. Not as fantastic as Kill and Tell, but definitely worth a read.
Rating: Summary: WHAT A GOOD BOOK!! Review: I am an avid reader. I read quickly and retain all that I read. So for me to put my money down I like to know in advance that I have spent my money wisely. I read all the reviews in amazon. I only buy books that I have researched and feel sure will be an investment that I will enjoy more than once. A few times I have been disapointed in the reviews that have lead me to spend my cash on a book that I didnt feel worth it, I mean really what was the reader looking for at that moment in time? I can honestly say that "All The Queens Men" was a wise and enjoyable read. The "007" feel was fast pace and the people true to their roles. MMGood stuff. I will be reading this one again. The plot took back seat. I enjoyed watching John and Niema pushed their way through the back seat of this well written novel. Linda...honey, you simply must give Ronsard his own book. I think I am half way in love with him, truely, if you need to ask me any questions about him I think I can dig up a bio. My imagination in very advanced. You probably can tell what this reader was thinking when I read your book, tall, dark, good looking great father. Hello. Oh and "Mr Perfect" was excellent also. I laughed and guessed. What more could a ready want than humor and guessing what comes next. For those out there who enjoy a good read. Anything done by Jennifer Crusie, Lord I laughed my rear end off with her writing, she is so quick and to the point of real life, and sometimes you just gotta laugh, you know? Get "All The Queens Men" its a good enjoyable read and well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Sexy Fun Review: Jaine Bright lives up to her name: She's as bright -- and explosive -- as a firecracker. But after three broken engagements, the heroine of this breezy new tale from Ms.Howard (All the Queen's Men) has given up on finding Mr. Perfect. When Jaine and three pals engage in some risqué girl talk about what they want in a man, their tongue-in-cheek list gets leaked to the local newscast. Soon, they're being pursued by the national press -- and one particularly offended, and psychotic, killer. Jaine takes refuge with her next-door neighbor Sam Donovan, a hunky cop who, as Howard pantingly describes, measures up on all counts. Their white-hot affair takes up so much of the book that finding the murderer seems almost an afterthought. Sam's police work cracks the case, but by the inevitable showdown, it's clear that Jaine is one woman who doesn't need rescuing. A quick sassy read.
Rating: Summary: This'll make you fall for John Medina all over again! Review: I fell for John in Kill and Tell (despite that fact that he was mostly a shadowy figure there - maybe that's why!) :) I couldn't wait to get a hold of this book when I found out that he was getting his own story. Wasn't disappointed by John's character - he turned out like I thought he would. All the Queen's Men is a great book to curl up with - fast-paced action that makes it hard to put down, electrical interactions between the heroine and the hero, and the pre-requisite evil figure tearing them apart. The world of spies have always been glamorized in tv and in books and this is no different. Which is okay with me since that's part of the reason why I read about espionage agents - the larger than life qualities of the heroes. Despite the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed the book I still couldn't give it 5 stars and that's for one reason only - the action storyline was wrapped up too quickly. It left me hanging and wanting more. Ms. Howard is still one of my favorite authors though and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!
Rating: Summary: wonderful read Review: This story has intrigue, romance, sex, adventure, and more; everything a FICTIONAL story should have. Strong characters. Well balanced. Great dialogs. If you have not read any Linda Howard's books, try this one.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This book was great. I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: A great read! Review: This is the first Linda Howard book I've read, and it was great. It held my interest, with great characters and a good plot. There seemed to be dimensions to the characters, making them seem much more real. As soon as I finished reading this book, I ordered another by Linda Howard, who has now been added to my list of regular authors to read.
Rating: Summary: Lite & Breezy, Dumb & Cheesy Review: I was in-between books and a coworker of mine recommended this one. I love trashy novels (like Jackie Collins' books!) and was told this book was fast and trashy. Well, it just didn't do it for me. It is very fast paced but the story was just too ludicrous and formulaic without any surprises- Smart, beautiful woman gets involved with espionage and romance while all the men fall at her feet (of course). The characters were too wooden to find engrossing and the plot wasn't nearly trashy enough to keep me interested either. (By the time there's finally a fairly raunchy sex scene you're almost through with the book and then the sex scene isn't all that great anyway.) This is really a pretty short book but I found it so boring that it took me about a month to read.
