Rating: Summary: It Was Just...OK Review: "FAST WOMEN" by Jennifer Cruise didn't really tickle my fancy. I found it very hard to keep up with all the characters, mainly because there was just so much going on.
I didn't find it to be a mystery nor quite a romance either. At one point it became very repetitious and extremely drawn out.
When Nell Dysart and her husband of 22 years get a divorce she finds herself weighed down by depression. She decides to accept a position as a secretary for a bedraggled detective agency. Nell sees some promise in this little business, envisioning changing it into an office of perfection.
Her boss, Gabe McKenna has just been dumped by his ex-wife for the second time, and is in constant argument with his cousin/partner, Riley, about the same tired cases. Nell steps in and puts his life in order, claiming herself as an efficient, sharp and intelligent woman... thus in the beginning they develop a love/hate relationship.
A murder case brings them closer together, also tying all the characters in as well. The mystery of the book did not leave me in suspense, and the romance aspect of it did nothing for me. There was more talk about a stolen dashund puppy named SugarPie/Marlene, and some ancient family china.
Overall I give this book 3 stars for the effort put forth.
Rating: Summary: Fast women? Very slooooow book! Review: Fast women, you say? I say very slow book. I cannot believe that this book was a New York Times bestseller.
Is this what readers have come to? And "writers"?
You will learn nothing from this book. Take that back: You will learn something about crockery, is that what it's called? Plates and such. Spode, etc. Is this of interest to anyone? People who cook, maybe? I hate to be politically incorrect but sometimes there's no other way to be? Could this book possibly appeal to women? I guess!
But, hold up, chum, isn't the value of a novel in its emotional impact, not what you may learn from it?
Emotional value. Oh, Nell is a beautiful person, ambivalent about everything but you gotta feel for her. She's got a good heart. Plus, she's smart. Well, if Gabe likes her, why shouldn't we like her?
Trevor? He's a fool, obviously. How can you like a fool? Are there such fools, for real, in Ohio? Where in Ohio? Well, that is not ours to know (it's on a need to know basis, as they say, and you don't' need to know). There is not one jot or one tittle of local color in this book. The word "Ohio" is only mentioned once. This could be "anywhere" Ohio, but it couldn't be "anywhere" USA, because in most parts of the country something happens. In this book's Ohio, nothing happens.
Gabe and Riley? Sensitive males? Heck, they're getting theirs, but who in the heck are they? This is never explained.
Margie, Suze (is that Suzie or Suz?), Jack, Stewart, who else?
I know! It just came to me right now. People like this book because it's simple! It's all talk and no action! What kind of person is going to like this book? I don't know. I did not like it. It was bunk. Diximus.
Rating: Summary: Have we met? Review: This book was wonderful. I started reading it right after my husband left, and was amazed by how much Nell sounded like me. I had to wonder if maybe Jennifer Crusie was someone I knew writing under a pen name I didn't know. Doubtful...
This book had it all. It had romance, suspense, mystery, and humor. I touched on so many emotions I couldn't list them all here. Ms. Crisie has always been a very talented writer in my eyes, but this is one of my all time favorites of hers. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Rating: Summary: I keep trying and she keeps letting me down... Review: I couldn't go much further after the heroine kissed her best friend before she kissed the hero of the story. And did I mention her best friend was NOT A GUY. How weird is that?
Also, don't even bother reading the jackets of Crusie's books. They go into great detail about the supposed main characters who immediately take a back seat to the rest of the story. She writes in depth about her secondary characters. I just don't get it.
Rating: Summary: Good book, Fast read Review: Jennifer Cruise has done it again a perfectly written book that had me up late at night. The chracters of this book were very believable. You won't be able to put this book down. five stars all the way. I recommend this book to all that have a sense of humor and a heart for romance and intrigue
