I'm a romance novel junkie, easily reading at approx. 4 per week, and this is one of the worst that I've ever read. It harkens back to those skimpy Harlequins I read as a teenager, the kind with the extremely one-dimensional characters and the romance is implausible (after spending just a week or so with the hero, the heroine is "in love" and wonders if the feelings are recipricated??? that's ridiculous). Also, Garwood's writing is boring. There's too much tedious detail and not enough insight into the heroine and/or hero's thoughts on each other; she'll spend a whole paragraph describing someone making a cup of tea (with no apparent purpose to doing that other than fill space) when she could have used that space to give readers insight into the protagonists feelings.Garwood is one of the worst writer's I've ever read. There's no depth to any of her characters and she writes in a stilted, reporter-like way. This is the first book that I've read by her, and it will most likely be the last.

Sadly, I don't agree with them all. JG's Heartbreaker was a difficult book for me to read. It just didn't hold me like her other books did. In fact, I started another book and only came back to it after six months and even than I found myself turning the pages without really reading them properly. When I finally came to the last chapter, I breath a sigh of relief. I finally finished it. I hear Mercy has come out here. I'm hoping this will be a better book. Yes, I don't plan on giving up on JG yet.

Review: I was origionally skeptical at a contemporary book by Julie Garwood but I was easily captured by her writing. I read the book in 2 nights and I definitely couldnt put it down. The best part was the real surprise ending, it will leave you with your jaw dropping! Nicole

I like that Julie Garwood could make the madman so real, it's like you know his mind. Basically, that's what I love about this book: the characters are all human, and interesting. And the mystery part is great too. I had trouble guessing who the killer really was.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: GREAT ROMANCE WITH HEART GRIPPING SUSPENSE! Review: This novel is basically a romance with an ok suspenseful plot. The story begins when Tommy Madden, a priest in a tiny town in Iowa, heard a chilling confession of a cold-hearted killer about his past murder and his future plan to kill other women. In fact, the next target will be the priest's own sister, Laurent. Tommy requests help from his best friend Nick Buchanan. Nick is an FBI agent in a special team that handles missing children cases. He is quick witted and has a good sense of intuition that usually lead to the break in a case. After a particularly stressful case in which he killed the kidnapper and saved the child, his team leader tells him to take a much needed vacation. Nick rushes to Tommy's aid upon hearing the news. Tommy and Laurent's parents died when they were very young. They were raised separately. Tommy grew up in the US with the Buchanan family. Laurent was raised by her grandfather and attended boarding school in Switzerland. Therefore, Nick had never met Laurent before. There was mutual attraction from the first time they met. To protect Laurent, Nick posed as her fiance. During this masquerade, Nick and Laurent fell in love. When Nick is still trying resist his feelings for Laurent (since she's his best friend's sister), the killer's plan to kill Laurent is put into action. I really loved the hero Nick. Besides being handsome and being FBI, which is a well respected occupation filled with some mystery and adventure, he is also vulnerable in his phobia. Nick is terrified of taking flights, which I think should be funny, but very real now especially after 9/11. This makes him very human. There was some comic relief when people teased him about this too. Another character that deserves mention here is Noah Clayborne. He's also an FBI agent that works with Nick. He's a ladies man, charismatic, and funny. His parts in the story are always light and with humor, especially when he flirts with the women during his undercover as a priest! I really hope the author will write more about him in her future novels. Overall good read! Highly recommended!

A young, ambitious girl, Laurant, is followed by this mad man that makes threats to her brother, a cop. Her brother has a partner, Nick, with whom she falls for while he is in the line of duty. As the story unravels itsef Laurant finds herself in a game of love, hope, and murder. This book is also a detail of escapades between the two lovers that can entice any reader to keep turning the pages.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Heartbreak High Review: I have never read Julie Garwood before, in fact I didn't read her now, I listened to the audiotape during my commute to and from work. A mystery or suspense thriller usually makes good company. I wasn't necessarily expecting a literary masterpiece, but the description of the story, written by a "New York Times bestselling" author sounded worth a try. It turned out to be "trying" at best. Longer than most 10th grade writing assignments, but hardly more sophisticated, the novel was at times excruciating to listen to. Predictable? Yes. Wooden? Like an oak. The heroine and hero were Barbie and Ken, but less dimensional. Paper cutouts with dialogue supplied by a 14 year old who has watched primetime often enough to get the sex scene down is more like it. The only good thing about the book is the hope that it should give to all unpublished novelists--if they wasted paper on this...we could get our grocery lists published!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great Modern Day Mystery Review: Wonderful mystery with strong family relationships. I really loved the "human-ness" of the FBI guys. Funny, and a great mystery that I couldn't figure out under the very end.
