Summary: I simply love this book
Review: julie garwood did a wonderful job!

Summary: could have been a lot better
Review: This book had an ingenious concept but the book failed to be the quality I expected it would. It was slow-paced and dragged on at parts. I never felt that the characters were actually in any danger. This was a romance novel in disguise. The characters and their love scenes were straight out of a cheesy Harlequinn romance novel.

The identity of Heartbreaker was a surprise though and the book was just interesting enough that I didn't throw it down in frustration. However, I would NOT read another novel by Julie Garwood.

Summary: Chilling, Heart pounding read!
Review: This was the first book by Julie Garwood that I had read. I was surprised to find that the book was not all sappy romance, but a total page turner. There is a nice warm connection between Nick and Laurant that takes care of the romance side....overall this book is a great read and I am hooked on Julie Garwood because of it!

Summary: oh my goooshhhhh..
Review: this is sooo predictable that I guessed - correctly - the murderer by chapter 2. the author's prose and style of writing just gave away too much and it felt rather draggy instead of moving the plot along. Too much character development is crammed into the pages when the characters are introduced. I also did not have any motivation of continuing with the book after discovering the murderer and it wasn't that tough to begin with. Just put the first and 2nd chapters together, tweak your brain cells a little and you will get ur murderer.

Summary: What was I thinking. . .
Review: when I wasted my money buying this and my time reading this? This was my first book of hers, and my last. I enjoy mysteries, murder, suspense, etc. This was none of the above. If I had wanted to read Danielle Steel, I would've bought one of HER books. I hated it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Still one of the best
Review: I enjoyed Heartbreaker. It was predictable, sure, but the story was very enjoyable. I found Nick and Laurant very believable in their affections. I thought the entire story had enough romance & suspense to keep the reader entertained. JG's humor came through only a little bit though, especially toward the end there when Nick was yelling, worried about Laurant. But yes, I'd definitly recommend this book.

Summary: Don't Waste Your Time
Review: The novel is mildly entertaining, the plot is so easy to figure out that you have no motivation to finish the book. Hints are dropped as to who the killer is, and its really easy to figure it all out then you keep reading to find out how it all plays out, only to be disappointed. Parts of the action described are totally unrealistic, like where Nick disarms an attacker on an airplane who has a gun pointed right at the pilot and again at the end when the protaganist is finally taken care of. It just doesn't seem much like real life at all to me. Now on to the love story, it has some good moments, but all in all, its no different than your typical hollywood movie where you are waiting practically the entire movie for the damzel in distress to fall in love with her savior. There's nothing exciting or new about this novel, it just gets lumped in with all the other FBI thrillers. So if you like predictable stories that don't require much thought at all, you might enjoy this. Otherwise, don't waste your time.

Summary: Great Beginning and Ending...
Review: Father Tom Madden takes confession and is shocked to learn that the penitent has targeted his sister Laurent, for murder. He calls his best friend, FBI Special Agent Nick Buchanan for help. Nick agrees to protect Laurent, especially since the murderer, nicknamed the Heartbreaker, is a lot closer to fulfilling his devious goals than anyone realizes. ... .

Mystery/suspense buffs should be warned that this book contains more romance than plausible suspense. Garwood's writing is delicious and fun, but the storyline is flat. The (somewhat shocking) ending is worthy of a good suspense yarn, but the plotting and characters seem dormant. This is a perfect book to pick up for a quiet weekend or lazy day. If it's page-turning action you are looking for in this genre, a better choice may be Catherine Coulter's FBI mystery: Eleventh Hour

Summary: Great Romatic Suspense
Review: Julie Garwood makes her first foray into the contemporary world. Only a few days ago did I stumble across "Mercy" her second contemp. book. I loved Mercy so much that I ran right out and bought "Heartbreaker". I am a prolific reader (7-8 romances/fiction a week) and I thought I would share what I got out of this book.

Short Synop:
Nick Buchanan is a member of an elite FBI division who specialize in finding children. After a particularly challenging case, where Nick kills the perp, he is ordered to take a vacation to try and avoid burning out. Right before he leaves he gets a call from his best friend, Father Tom Madden. "Heartbreaker," who tells him he is going to kill his sister Laurent, visited Father Tom in the confessional booth. He instructs Father Tom to call in Nick.

Nick of course rides to the rescue and the story progresses on with Nick and Laurent falling in love, trying to outsmart the killer and still save the town square from development.

Having read this book second, I did notice a couple of things that put me off. Between this book and Mercy, she used quite a few phrases exactly the same in both books, which took me out of the story since they jumped out at me.

Other than that, this was a very good first book. Nick and Laurent's characters were well done and believable, as was the story line. I love novels about the FBI, CIA, policeman etc and this was pretty well written. I wasn't even sure who the killer was until Ms. Garwood revealed it. I'm usually hard to stump.

I think some of the secondary stories made this book a little more full, than it should have been. I would like to have seen more interaction between Laurent and Nick so that the "falling in love" part didn't seem so rushed, but other than that this was a well-done book. I gave it 3 stars since I think there is room for improvement (which I saw in Mercy which I gave 4 stars).
