Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: What are you waiting for.. buy the book! Review: I have been waiting for this book to come out for a while now...ever since I read about it on the back cover of "Ransom". I went out on July 1st, bought it and then ran home and read it. This is not typical JG, But this is still a great book.. I dont agree that Laurant was weak.. If I was ever put in her position, I dont think I would be cool calm and collected either... My only criticisim about the book.. after we find out who the bad guy was, the ending feels rushed... It just kind of ends. I would like to have read more of Nick and Laurant... Like where did they end up living.. Holy Oaks? Boston? I guess she left the door of possibility open for her next book...Hmmm... Noah Clayborne? Yeah... I think so...JG wouldnt have used his name if there wasnt something in the mix for him.. He could have been Noah Smith.. No, I think.. hope.. that there will be a story about Noah.. This book was a good fast read.. one that I'll read again.. Its already making it's way around my office.. I think I should add.. I only read historicals.. no modern novels.. But when I found out Julie Garwood was doing one, I had to support her, and buy it.. i'm glad I did.. So, if you have any reservations about reading a modern romance..don't.. This book was great.. She will not let you down on this effort! I cant Tell you enough.. get this book... If you like Nora Roberts.. this is better than anything I've ever read by her! Buy the book!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I Really enjoyed it. Review: I read this book in less than a weekend. I was sad to have it end. I have been so dissapointed lately from all my favorite authors who have seemed to phone it in or try to be too politically correct. For Julie Garwood's first contempory novel, I think she did a great job. It was funny, you understood the attraction and the conflict. I was surprised, not by the killer, but by the cover. The only thing was I think it could have been longer and more detailed about her money issues and her feelings of abandonment.Until I read the reveiws today, I didn't even think Noah Clayborne could have been a relative. What a great thing to look forward to.I gave it 5 stars because it kept me very entertained while home sick. It made me laugh and it made me cry. What more can you ask for when reading romantic fiction.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Same old story . . . different author Review: As an avid Julie Garwood fan, I checked my mailbox daily for her newest release. I just KNEW that her contemporary mystery was going to be as wonderful as her previous (romance) novels. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have read THIS SAME BOOK. 1-Serial killer on loose. 2-Killer goes after heroine. 3-Heroine needs protection by FBI Agent/Police (whatever). 4-Sparks fly between heroine and agent. 5-Will the agent be able to protect the heroine from the psycho killer - Or will she just be another fatal victim? Although I applaud Ms. Garwood's efforts at trying her hand at contemporary / mystery, I believe she could have done better than just recycling a story that's been done so many times before. If you are a true Julie Garwood fan, I know you will go out and buy this book in hardback, no matter what the reviewers have to say. BUT, be warned... this is NOT the Julie Garwood you know and love! If you can make it, wait until it comes out in paperback.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Gripping suspense Review: I bought the book yesterday evening and stayed up until 3 AM to finish it. I could not put it down! If you like Garwood for her wit and humor in the back and forth between her lead characters, then this might not work for you. Nonetheless, this is an outstanding story that holds you from page one. The ending was a bit abrupt, but I still love it!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Nice Contemporary (although I prefer her historicals) Review: Julie Garwood has followed in the footsteps of Catherine Coulter and Iris Johansen by expanding her horizons and writing about modern day FBI agents. Like those two, Garwood carried this first effort off well. I must admit that while I waited impatiently for Catherine Coutler's "The Maze" years ago when it came out, I was far less excited by the prospect of Garwood's latest. The market seems saturated with serial killer romances, and I feared that Garwood's tale would be unorginal. Thankful, my fears were unfounded. Garwood wove a wonderful tale that had her usual courageous (yet seemingly unaware of this fact) heroine and strong protective hero. The secondary characters were well drawn and full of depth. It is very cute how Garwood has pulled in surnames from her historical novels. The heroine's ability to refrain from falling immediately into bed with the hero was a wonderful touch. Many authors who enter the contemporary arena think that the easiest way to do this is to point out how much more women today have sex. I'm also glad that there weren't a bunch of wishy washy mistaken intentions in Garwood's latest novel. I look forward to reading about Noah in the future, although I hope Garwood will still write some of her outstanding historicals. They will always be my favorites. So, overall, a wonderful contemporary novel with original ideas and well written characters. Bravo
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Disappointing contemporary debut Review: I eagerly awaited Ms. Garwood's contemporary debut, but have to say that I was disappointed. Neither the hero nor the heroine are endearing -- they are both caricatures with no personality to complete them. Frankly, Father Tom and Noah were the most interesting characters and they weren't around enough to keep the plot from dragging. I can't put a finger on exactly what went wrong -- the book opened well. But there were too many pages spent on subplots that weren't really relevant and characters (like the FBI guy in charge) whose presence was useless as a plot device. I'd steer clear of "Heartbreaker" until released in paperback, or read it at the library.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Excellent...but something was missing! Review: I'd buy any book with Julie Garwood's name on it...she's an outstanding writer and I love her historicals. But I found this ended too quickly and too much like "Murder She Wrote". It was good reading for a lazy day.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Very Disapointing Review: I was looking foward to reading this book since I heard it was coming out. When I finaly got it and read it I was very disapointed. I found Nick and Laurant's relationship taking a back seat to the "murder mistery" wich I found lacking. Their relationship never takes of until the end and by then you have skipped so many boring pages that all you want for the book to end. Don't take me wrong the book is good if you are not expecting a romance novel, wich in my opinion this is not. I found their relationship stale and missing that all important spark of passion. Laurant, I found, to be a one dimensional character never having any deph, never growing. Nick was missing that air of power and sensuality that most of Julie Garwood's male characters have. I have read all of Julie Garwood's books and this sadly is one I'm not re-reading.
