Summary: Disappointing!
Review: Cry Wolf is the mediocre result you get when an author tries to go back and convert an earlier effort which was in the "romance" genre --the genre in which Tami Hoag started writing -- into a thriller -- the genre in which Hoag has achieved her fame.

Until Cry Wolf, I have been a big fan of Tami Hoag, enjoying thrillers such as Night Sins, Guilty As Sin, etc. very much. Cry Wolf, however, is mostly a soap opera. The mystery/suspense doesn't even begin to come into play until about 1/2 way into this 529 page paperback. Since I am an avid reader of thrillers, I was somewhat disappointed that, despite the fact that a number of murders did happen, the suspense was unsatisfying for me. I kept hoping that as I read on the suspense would build; but, it did not. Bottom line is if you're a "romance" reader who likes some mystery/suspense, this is a book you'll enjoy (and probably a lot). However, this book will probably disappoint you, as it did me, if you are a thriller lover looking for an exciting "read."

Summary: I read it a second time
Review: My acid test for a good book is, would I read it again? Well, I did read 'Cry Wolf' again - within two months. I'm not usually too keen on books set in the Deep South - it reminds me of 'Gone With the Wind' - which I hated, finding it racist and sexist. [And Scarlet O'Hara really annoys me]. However, with 'Cry Wolf' the background of the Lousisiana bayous were just so vivid, that I couldn't help but get caught up in it. And the love scenes were some of the steamiest that I've read for quite some time! The characterisation is very good, indeed. Jack and Laurel's torments are quite convincingly portrayed. As for Laurel's mother - it's a wonder that Laurel turned into a decent human being with a mother with that! The main drawback, I found was the identity of the villian. It wasn't obvious to start with, but once Laurel figured it out, the revelation was somthing of an anti-climax. However, that was compensated for by the suspense at the end. All in all, I found 'Cry Wolf' a very good book, and would recommend it for those who like both a good romance, and something a bit grittier.

Summary: Romance, suspense and murder all rolled up in one great book
Review: I really enjoyed this book! The first Tami Hoag novel I ever read was "Ashes to Ashes" which was also very good but a little more gruesome and scary. "Cry Wolf" was more of a mild thriller. The things I loved about this book was the outstanding character development. You really come to know and like these characters (most thrillers are not into character development). I also enjoyed the relationship between the two main characters, it seemed so "real". But don't worry there is also plenty of action. You'll just have to wait for it a little longer than in most thrillers. I highly recommend this book. This is a perfect beach book. Enjoy!

Summary: Cry Wolf Is Thrilling
Review: Cry Wolf is a terrific book. It was one of those books that twists and turns and you can't put it down....I caught myself wanting to look to the end - but held myself back. As usual with Ms. Hoag, I wasn't disappointed.

I would highly recommend it!

Review: I never used to read very often. Something now I regret. I started reading alot in the last 18 months. I read all of Patricia Cornwell's novels and a few others here and there. This was by far my favorite so far. Tammi Hoag really pulls you into the characters and the places she writes about. I look forward to catching up on reading the rest of her novels, romance or suspence.

Summary: BORING
Review: I am an avid reader. I have read numerous books by Tami Hoag. "Cry Wolf" is by far the most boring. I agree with another readers review in that most of the time the characters in the book whined. I skimmed through most of the book. I am always interested in who-dunnit so I read through to the end. I hoped as the story progressed it would become more interesting. It did not. I would not recomend this book to anyone.

Summary: Waste of Time--Can I Rate This As 0 Stars??
Review: This book is by far the WORST of Tami Hoag's books. First of all, I have come to notice a trend with her novels. Can the main heroine EVER fall for anyone she knows more than 1 week? Anyone male who is close to the main character for more than 1 year turns out to be a complete moron, and this book is no exception. I knew who the killer was from the very start, and I felt no empathy for the main character. Be prepared, the first 300 pages is all about listening to her whine...and whine...and whine. Save yourself some time--just start on page 300, oh look, that's where the plot starts. And then the "hero" whines...and whines...and whines. They deserve one another for their patheticness. Tami: I challenge you: write a novel about a woman who is SANE, and a guy that loves her from long ago. Maybe that way you could write a novel about a realistic relationship, and a woman that I actually could imagine being friends with, as opposed to one who just inspires disgust.

Summary: Loved ''Cry Wolf"
Review: This is the first Tami Hoag book I have ever read. My fiance and his father (both Hoag fans) introduced me "Cry Wolf". This book was so good that I finished it in one day, because I wanted to find out what happened to the characters. I loved the character of Laurel, because she had a driven desire for justice and the truth, but my favorite character was Jack Boudreaux. He struck me as street smart but secretive in regards to his past. I felt pity for the character of Savannah, because of her promiscuity ,her search for love in all the wrong men, and her abuse by her stepfather when she was young. The characters of Vivian, Sheriff Kenner, and Stephen Danjermond made my blood boil as I read this book. A very good "erotic thriller"- one that I would recommend, as well as her other books.

Summary: There is a Plot...
Review: As a Tami Hoag fan, I found this book to have a slow start. The storyline tempts the reader and lays ideas that "something" has happened to both of the main characters, Jack and Laurel; however, it is slow at revealing what the "something" is. Unlike Hoag's other books which starts off with a murder mystery, the first half of the book delves into a the love story part of the plot. Because I enjoy Hoag for the Who-Dunnit stories, I felt that the first half dragged on. Not a bad read, but does not measure up to my favorite, A Thin Dark Line. Both Cry Wolf and A Thin Dark Line take place in South Louisiana, a place that is near and dear to my heart.

Summary: Mystery and Suspense
Review: Cry Wolf is a great suspense novel, and one of my favorite Hoag books. The characters are colorful, the killer was somewhat of a surprise and the last pages of the book are impossible to put down. The romantic storyline was a little too sappy otherwise this book is a terrific read.
