Rating: Summary: I'm not a fan of romance novels but this one stands out... Review: I'm not a fan or romance type novels but this one definitely help my interest. Ms. Brockman manages to write about believable people, struggling to find love, whilme adding plenty of uspsne and even intrigue to the mix. If you're looking for a chance to find a romance novel that will keep you entertained and have more than bare-bones characters, pick up this one.
Rating: Summary: Should be Unsung Heroes Review: I've read each and every one of her US Navy SEALs series and I love them all. Why? Because you get more for your money in Brockmann's books and Unsung Hero is no different. This one, like the others, offers more than a single love story. Sure, it has a modern-day love story between Tom, an injured SEAL on medical leave, and Kelly, a childhood friend-turned-divorced doctor. But, it goes beyond that! (1)with Tom's struggle to retain his position with the SEALs and concerns over his own sanity and health (2) with a possible terrorist threat that may be real or may be Tom's imagination (3) with flash-backs to a WWII buddy story of lost-love involving Tom's great-uncle, Kelly's father and a French widow. (4) and with an added love story sparking between two unlikely youths, one being Tom's neice. Brockmann does a spectacular job of weaving the plots to form a truly enjoyable page-turning novel! It really should have been called Unsung Heroes ... there's more than one character who'll touch your heart in this book.
Rating: Summary: My first Brockmann novel and NOT my last! Review: If you have never read any of Ms. Brockmann's books, you MUST try this one at least! Great story, great characters (esp Mallory and David!), great author. Amazon.com recommended this book to me, and I thought I would give it a shot. Boy was I surprised. I couldn't put it down. Neither Tom nor Kelly are perfect people, and I really felt drawn to that. I can't believe I never come across her books before. This one will definitely NOT be my last book by Ms. Brockmann!!
Rating: Summary: I LOVE S. Brockmann Review: If you have never read any of Ms. Brockmann's books, you MUST try this one. Great story, great characters (esp Mallory and David!), great author. I have read all of Ms. Brockmann's work and she is truly great. When I purchase her books I can't put them down. In this book there are no main characters, all of Ms. Brockmann's characters play center stage. I strongly recommend reading this and catching up on other Suzanne Brockann novels!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The Reader is the Unsung Hero Review: If you make it through this book, you will be the unsung hero. The plot was simple and the characters were one dimensional. After seeing the book cover I thought this would be a book about the military...but it was about reunions and relationships. I found the book written at the high school level.
Rating: Summary: Great novel Review: It's one of her best books and it's definitely worth the money! Try it and you'll love it.
Rating: Summary: Perfect balance of romance & suspense Review: Lt. Tom Paoletti undergoes massive head trauma during an assignment as a Navy SEAL. Even after he recovers physically, he is required to take a 30 day convalescent leave. Since his injury, he has been more short-tempered, which can be a symptom of such injuries. Other possible symptoms include paranoia, delusions, and hallucinations. Tom goes to visit his Great Uncle Joe, and sees an international terrorist in the airport at Boston. Or was it just his imagination? Tom wonders if he'll be able to go back to active duty as a SEAL and do his job properly. Pediatrician Kelly Ashton has come home to small-town Massachusetts to care for her dying father, Charles. She is surprised to see Tom, although it was inevitable, as Charles and Joe have been best friends for nearly 60 years. Kelly still feels the same attraction for Tom that she did when she was a teenager, even though Tom left abruptly after one of the best nights of her life. It's hard to say what exactly it is about Ms. Brockmann's books that appeal to me so much. I'm usually not big on military types, nor on suspense. I suppose it's that I care about these characters, and thus, about the situations into which they are thrown. With the huge threat of terrorism in today's real life, perhaps it is comforting to read about people like the SEALs who are trained to deal with such things. The balance between romance and suspense is just about perfect, with secondary plots and interactions throughout. Joe and Charles drift off in their thoughts to their time fighting Nazis in France during WWII. Tom's teenage niece, Mallory, is trying to get out from the shadow of her irresponsible mother when a nerdy guy starts following her around (I have to admit I like him a lot :) Kelly tries to repair her relationship with her father before he dies. There is a lot going on, but Ms. Brockmann keeps all the threads hanging together superbly. Whatever secret charm the author possesses, THE UNSUNG HERO kept me glued to the pages all evening. Don't start reading it on a day you must get other things done -- they won't get done. This is my favorite kind of book of all, one that grabs me and immerses me completely.
Rating: Summary: Excellen work of romantic suspense Review: Navy SEAL Lieutenant Tom Paolitti is injured during a rescue mission, which leads to a hospital stay. When Tom learns that Rear Admiral Turner plans to eliminate his troubleshooting team, he loudly complains. The doctors claim that his outrageous behavior is a normal reaction to the head injury he suffered. Thus, he is sent home for 30-days of convalescent leave. At Logan Airport, Tom spots a person with the mannerisms of international terrorist The Merchant. He calls it in even as the brass wonders if he is being paranoid due to the recent trauma. Tom stays with his Uncle Joe while next door is Dr. Kelly Ashton who is temporarily residing with her dying father. For fifteen years, Tom has carried the torch for Kelly. As they reacquaint themselves, Tom and Kelly fall in love. However, can a Navy SEAL find lasting happiness with a pediatrician especially when he keeps seeing a terrorist who, if it is him, apparently is targeting the VIPs at the upcoming WW II anniversary celebration. THE UNSUNG HERO is an entertaining romantic suspense novel that centers on various relationships. The story line is enjoyable because the different types of relationships ring genuine even that between Tom and The Merchant. The intrigue elements provide additional excitement, but Suzanne Brockmann's tale works because of the interplay between several members of the cast. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Suzanne Brockmann does it again Review: Suzanne Brockmann's books have become automatic buys for me and her winning streak continues with Unsung Heroes. It's got her trademark action and wit along with realistic emotions and dialogue. Also, while she does a great job (as always) with her two main characters this time Ms. Brockmann also gives us two great secondary storylines as well, one about a romantic triangle set in WWII and one about Tom's (the hero's) rebellious (but sweet under all than hostility) teenage niece. Thanks Ms. Brokkmann!
Rating: Summary: Great blend of the past and present Review: The romance element is not the strongest in this book, but it's a good story nonetheless. Tom Paoletti has been injured and comes home to rest, only to see an international terrorist in his quiet hometown. Of course, no one believes him, and his own boss thinks Tom is having hallucinations caused by his injury. Following more sightings, Tom persists, and enlists the help of his niece and her boyfriend (a very sweet relationship) and of Dr. Kelly Bishop, the girl next door that once touched Tom's heart. Now divorced, Kelly realizes that her feelings for Tom have never gone away, but it takes a lot to convince him that Kelly wants more than a good time. The book switches from a buddy story in WWII Europe to the present, where Tom and Kelly have to find love again amidst the lethal danger posed by the terrorist. I liked this book a lot, the history part of it, the secondary romance, and even though the Tom-Kelly relationship is not the strongest part of the book, it is well drawn and realistic. Good job, Ms. Brockmann, I await The Defiant Hero.
