Rating: Summary: Husband from Hell Review: This is the first book that I have read by Lisa Gardner. I enjoyed reading it, and hope this is a good example of her work. It's easy to get into from the beginning, unlike some books that I have read and holds you to the end. It has several twists along the way that are unexpected. Worth the time it takes to read it!
Rating: Summary: Another thrilling ride from Lisa Gardner. Review: Tessa has put her daughter into protective custody and is on the run from her ex-husband (an decorated ex-cop who she helped put away after discovering he had murdered 10 women) who has recently escaped from prison. Tess hides out in Arizona and hires an ex-marine to help her learn to fight and defend herself. The tension is non-stop, knowing that Tess' ex-husband, Jim Beckett, could be anywhere and has the resources and cunning to track down her and her daughter. Ms. Gardiner takes you on a non-stop roller coaster ride from beginning to end.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: This was my first book by Lisa Gardner, But It definatly wont be my last. The main charactor, Tess, marries a man who appears to be her knight in shining armor, come to take her away from her abusive father. Not long after saying "I do" though, she finds out that he is a monster in disguise, the disguise of a perfect husband. Jim Beckett is a police officer. And he uses his "place in life" to become a serial killer. Tess studies his behavior for quite awhile, until she feels that he is indeed the serial killer that they were all looking for. She knows that it may be a mistake, but calls law enforcement anyhow, and turns him in. After weeks of investigating, they find they have enough evidence to haul him in, though Jim knows it as well, so he dissapears off the face of the earth. Tess agrees to being watched, but somehow, after so long a time, they cant afford the amount of manpower needed to continue, so she is left with a skelital crew protecting her. He makes his move. Tess shoots him, the officers finally arrive and haul him away. Two years went by, before he could escape. Now, Tess must flee for her life again, only this time she doesnt trust law enforcement to protect her. She places her daughter in a safe house, then flees to Arizona to meet a mercenary, one she is hoping to train her survial skills. He doesnt wish to do so at first, but once he finds out who she is, and why she is there, he finally relents. I dont want to spoil the rest of the story for you, so to touch a few bases, JT, (the mercenary) and Tess, and JT's sister, (who is an FBI agent) become the focus of the story. Tess becomes alot more to JT than he wants anyone to, and JT becomes a focal point for Tess, and she falls in love. This book tells of the inside of a serial killers mind, a victims mind, and the ones who try so desperatly to catch him before he harms anyone else. It describes scenes so discriptivly, you invision it in your mind, and time flys before you realize it, many chapters later and your eyes are bleary. Five Stars Lisa, you have added yet another satisfied fan to your ranks.
Rating: Summary: Perfect::(adj.)Completely adept in a certain field..being in Review: a state of highest excellence. And, yes, Jim Beckett was nearly perfect at what he did. The only catch is that he was not in any way a perfect husband, but a savvy, brutal serial killer. When she married him, Tess thought she was the luckiest girl in the world so she accepted all the punishment he could dole out and never questioned. He did things because he loved her and wanted her to be better. Until she finally realizes she can take no more, and she is no better, but a prisoner of his insane mind and of every sadistic thought he has. Lisa Gardner has impressed me with her tightly wrapped chapters, precise wording and a wonderful grasp about how to weave one thought into the other to form a perfect tapestry of horror, deception and sheer terror for the reader.Tess and J.T., an ex-marine she has enlisted in her battle to bring Jim Beckett to justice , play off one another and add another dimension to an already thrilling novel. Truly a young writer who is going places fast and who has the skill, knowledge and 'what it takes' to be a rising star. Don't miss this one! Then go one to her subsequent novels and you will soon be a fan. I certainly am.
Rating: Summary: Not as impressive as The Other Daughter Review: My first Lisa Gardner novel was The Other Daughter. I absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to read another. I was a bit disappointed in The Perfect Husband. I didn't find it to be that suspenseful. THe first half of the book focused on Tess and JT and there was little excitement. The ending was okay, but again, not that suspenseful. There were many details that were not expanded on to satisfy the reader. I am not giving up on Gardner, however. I am currently reading The Third Victim, and can't put it down.
Rating: Summary: A FANTASTIC NEW AUTHOR Review: IF YOU HAVE NEVER READ LISA GARDNER, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET THIS ONE NOW. SHE IS CURRENTLY RELEASING ONLY HER 4TH BOOK AND I HAVE READ EVERYONE, AND WAITING IN EARNEST FOR THE 5TH.
Rating: Summary: this book is a keeper Review: I read a more recent book by this author first and liked that one enough to go out and find the others by this auhor and this was the first one of the old ones I've gotten to.This book was great. It wasn't flawless - the hero and one of the "secondary" characters were brother and sister and while I appreciate that they had to have a history to be who they were in the book, I did get a little bit tired of being constantly bombarded with hints and reminders of why they were who they were. (does that make sense?!) Bottom line: Did I like this book? Yes. If I lend this book out, do I want it back? Yes. Am I going to read the hardcover by this author I bought before reading this book or will I return it? I'll read it.
Rating: Summary: A villain sure to make you cringe... Review: Tess married the perfect man: Police officer, handsome, everything she was supposed to look for in a man. How was she to know he was a sociopath? Lisa Gardner delivers a great thrill-ride with "The Perfect Husband," but it is the exceptional crafting of both the villain and the heroine that win my admiration. The villain, sociopath Jim Beckett, is a very well-crafted (and obviously researched) character. His machinations - and his inside knowledge of having been a police officer - turn him into one hell of a good character: you are afraid of him, and afraid of what he can - and will - do to the rest of the cast. But it is Tess, the heroine, that brings this novel to its frantic pace. Mother of one, and not about to let her child be in danger, Tess makes the ultimate decision: the police failed to protect her once, she's going to go get outside help and learn to protect herself. Strong-willed when she has to be, and yet not devoid of the terror she must be feeling, Gardner has given us a very plausible heroine here. You really feel for Tess, and her reactions are human. As Jim homes in on Tess, and Tess relies on a mercenary to keep her alive, the story just deepens and deepens with dramatic tension. You'll stay awake reading this one - I did! There's only a few foibles (one supporting character did something so insanely stupid I sat back and blinked in astonishment at the out-of-character action), but in its entirety, the book is a thrill-ride. Grab this one. 'Nathan
