Summary: Classic Lesbian Romance
Review: This is a classic lesbian romance. Well written and steamy. If you liked this try Heart on Fire by D. Simmonds and Painted Moon by K. Kallmaker.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Romantic and sweet book.
Review: This is a great book because it explores the emotional and physical attraction between two beautiful women that lead to love. When I visualize Lane I cant help but picture Michelle phieffer and for Diana.... Mitzi Kapture, of Silk Stalkings. I have read the book so many times that I have begun to wonder how would it read if the story was told from Lane's point of view instead of Diana's. I think that many ppl would like to read what was Lane thinking when the cabin door at Lake Tahoe opened and in walked Diana...

Summary: a beautiful lesbian love story!
Review: This is a great, great lesbian love story. When I think "lesbian love story," the two books that come to mind immediately are this one, and (the in some ways quite similar) Claire of the Moon. They share a certain beauty, they're sweet and sensitive, and they're about real, deep-down, soul-shaking connection between two women.

Curious Wine's two main characters -- Diane and Lane -- draw you in, and the others are not only great foils, but have their own tensions and issues to work through and deal with. I guess you could say there's a good deal of "CR" going on throughout the story. :)

The heart of the plot is the growing relationship between the two main characters, and the personal growth that one of them -- who had considered herself heterosexual -- has to go through to figure out what she wants for herself. Sub-plots revolve around the supporting characters' lives, and their roles in Diane's and Lane's lives.

The story's so engaging, the writing so flowing and smooth, the characters so hard to leave behind that I end up re-reading this book on a pretty regular basis. Read it, love it, read it again -- and again, and again ....

Summary: Outstanding! A must-read. I loved it!
Review: This is my first Katherine Forrest novel and I'm hooked. This was such a pleasure to read as it had the best of romance, friendship, and adventure of two beautiful women and the people that surround them. I can not stress to anyone enough - READ THIS BOOK!

It is such a moving, wonderful story and can mean so much to someone just coming out. It provides the hope of meeting that special person. The love between the two characters is so well portrayed and I became enthralled in the book immediately - couldn't put it down. Enjoy!

Summary: A foundation novel
Review: This is the book that I believe set the bar for the lesbian romance genre, both in quality of writing and expression of sexuality. Written nearly 20 years ago, this story presented a radical idea: that two women who have many other options to choose from can choose each other. Most of us now take this idea for granted, but 20 years ago not even lesbians were certain they had a right to happiness and forever after, or that they deserved to dream of romance and love.

From a literary standpoint, this novel, for me, thankfully also marked the end of flowery euphemisms for female genitalia -- Forrest's remarkable skill to describe by nuance undoubtedly inspired many other writers (like Karin Kallmaker and Marianne Martin, to name two) to make it clear exactly what is going on ... without explicit sexual language. That writing, not quite erotica, but quite erotic, definitely not pornographic, is one of the hallmarks of a good lesbian romance for me. It's a remarkable achievement in prose and Forrest set the standard for all who followed.

Because this book dates back 20 years, some of the relationship contexts have become dated -- for example, the "consciousness-raising" and emphasis on processing early on. But balance that against a moment of clarity when the two women realize they want each other and realize, also, that they really are old enough, free enough, and courageous enough to go to a motel in the middle of the day. The moments when both of them, separately, realize they have to reach out for what they want, were profound for me, in the context of the character's lives and in the context of our community's struggle to live open lives. We first have to know what we want, and have the strength to reach for it.

Summary: If you like late 70's/early 80's contrite cheese...
Review: This little book was a hoot and a half. I first heard of it through Amazon.com, and it took 6 days for my hickish library to find another library which actually had it---turned out to be Cambridge. I read it in one day, in all the most inappropriate places to read a sex-scene filled lesbian novel; at the train station, waiting for the subway....needless to say, the lusty misadventures of Lane and Diana bordered on gooey swiss cheese a few too many times for my taste. [i.e. "encounter" games, long, silly talks about everyone's bad points...] Vivian seemed funny but an alcoholic/gambler that no one ever bothered to wonder about. Madge, Millie and all the other cabin gals meshed together into a nebulous crowd of faceless dullards, and the whole cast were fools for forgiving the crackpot "Liz" for her caustic nature, after she'd had a beer and some "grass". [Forrest dates herself here--I don't think they referred to weed as "grass" even in 1983, when it was first published] Forrest wrote Lane's lawyer-independent-woman character pretty effectively, except when she pathetically sat around waiting for Diana practically every moment of the trip. Diana was written okay, but Forrest's ultimate worst flub in this book was the pseudo-rape scene with Chick. What was the message supposed to be there? It was definitely NOT an affirmation of lesbianism, just an awkwardly-placed, pathetic description of male-bashing.

I have never read any other of Forrest's books. It has its funny moments. This is a good summer fling book, that only takes 1 day to read, even if you are going slow.

Summary: Can I say WOW!
Review: This novel is absolutley intense! The characters are well developed, and the love scenes made me have to put the book down and chill out before I continued to read! The love that developes between the two characters gives lesbian women hope, or reiderates there own feelings that they might have for someone else.

Summary: Romance, passion, discovery and love
Review: This story will stay in you mind and your heart long after the last page is turned. I loved this book, it is the best romance that I've ever read. I read the whole book in one night, and when it was over (all too soon), I started back from page one and read it again. It will be hard to find a story to follow this one! Everyone should own this book, maybe even two copies!
