Rating: Summary: This doesn't have any thrill of mystery for me at all.. blah Review: I read this book on the recommendation of a Dee Henderson fan. I was looking for a replacement for my favorite writers: Sue Grafton, Lilian Jackson Braun,Rita Mae Brown and Dorothy Gilman. I was hoping this would be a good author to get into. But I just couldnt get excited about this book. It was dull, boring, cardboard, mechanical.. awful! I kept picking this book up reading a chapter or two & putting it back down because the intrigue just isn't here. I finally gave up on this book last night..half way through. It just doesnt happen in this book and I can not understand how anyone can say this is good fiction! I am not a romance fiction reader. I love mysteries. The intrigue that other reviewers keep talking about..just isnt here. This book & this author fall short! I guess I will just have to stick with my secular mystery writers until I find a Christian writer with more talent than this writer has shown.
Rating: Summary: no challenge, extremely boring Review: Unbeleivable story line, shallow characters, altogether boring. Third person unless the characters are praying. I was expecting a mystery or perhaps a romance, this book hinted at both but really contained neither. Only finished it as a friend wanted to include it in a book discussion - came to find out she never finished it either...
Rating: Summary: Amazing!! Review: I bought this book at our local Christian bookstore- I just needed a new book to read and I had read about it here. Well, I thought it would be mildly good. I was wrong. This book was amazing. I started reading it around 2am and by 3:15 when I finally shut off my light I was over half way through. This book was sooo good that I woke up the next morning and finished before I left for work. The author had enough descriptions of the events to make you feel like you were there. You could see inside the characters and believe that they were real. I was able to see and feel what the author described throughout the book. I was able to see the book like I was watching a movie. All this is to say, if you like books whose center is God and people's relationship to Him and the love that developes between people this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: I read this book in one sitting. I was hooked from the moment I started. I had heard this book talked about by a lot of friends, but I admit I was skeptical. I didn't think "christian fiction" could be as suspenseful as the mainstream kind. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong. This is a great story which anyone would enjoy. The characters seemed believable and the plot was thrilling.
Rating: Summary: Surprised at how well I enjoyed this book Review: Since I had not heard of this author before picking up this book, I have to admit I went into it a little skeptical. But I was pleasantly surprised by how the subtleness of God's guidance was spun into this suspenseful story. Just when we though it was over, she surprises us with another shock! I am looking forward to reading more of Dee's books! If you are looking for a book to read on a stormy afternoon - this is it!!!
Rating: Summary: Well worth the read!!! Review: I loved this book!!! This is the first novel that I have read by Dee Henderson I did't want to put the book down. It is full of suspense and thrills, and I loved the characters. I enjoyed the wonderful relationship between Sara and her brother and of course, there was a wonderful love story. I was a little disappointed in the way that the book ended, but it is still a fantastic read. I am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Henderson's books.
Rating: Summary: Henderson's absolute best (to date anyway)! Review: I really think this is Dee Henderson's best book to date. I read the first three O'Malley books before I read Danger in the Shadows. I was 250 pages into the book before I decided Danger in the Shadows was better than The Negotiator. But, it is. So, if you like The O'Malley Series, you will love this book. Danger in the Shadows is the story of Sara Walsh (Richman) and her brother Dave (who plays a prominent role in the O'Malley Series). Sara and her twin sister were kidnapped when they were children. Sara survived the ordeal, but her sister did not. So, Sara has been living with a ton of guilt her whole life. She also lives in fear - of the dark, and of the man who still stalks her. All this, her whole life, takes place under the smothering blanket of FBI protective surveillance. Enter Adam Black, retired pro football quarterback. He and Sara fall in love, but she has a hard time letting anyone get very close. Not only is her past haunting, her present is so encumbered by security that forming relationships is almost not worth it. So, it's an interesting relationship from the beginning. The tension of the situation is well written. We also see the depth of brotherly love and protection Dave provides for Sara. He has devoted his life to her protection. Yes, he is as imprisoned by the past as his sister. The book is very well written. Henderson handles the kidnapping very well. She gives the reader just enough detail to explain the trauma without developing the situation into something distasteful. Most of what the reader deals with is Sara's reactions to the past after she becomes an adult. The theological issue, if you can call it that, is the tension between trusting God and fearing the unknown and uncontrollable. Henderson has dealt with this struggle superbly. I highly recommend this book to every reader. Whether one is a Christian or not, I think he or she will greatly enjoy this book. I personally find it refreshing to read a book with no profanity. Henderson's books are great that way. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: A great, suspenseful read Review: Like my Houston friend, I read the Negotiator (Book I, O'Malley series) first. When I found out that "Dave" originated in this precursive "romance" novel, I just had to find out more about him and his background. I was not disappointed.
I was surprised that this was classified as a romance novel because a Harlequin fan I'm not. This was a classic suspense novel with gut-twisting turns and dark secrets. Though I guessed how the story would end, Ms Henderson wrote it so well that it still left me wanting more at the end.
I found it interesting that Sara, the female lead, was somewhat lacking in her faith and perhaps had been praying and expecting the wrong answer since her mysterious and clouded childhood. And yet, her love interest had to be a believer or she would not consider him a 'match'.
A sombre touch, but happy endings all around and a good introduction to the O'Malley clan you'll meet in Ms Henderson's O'Malley series - not to be missed!
Rating: Summary: Fine-tuned edition Review: This printing has been slightly edited by the author. The changes make the story flow better in places or the dalogue and thoughts of the characters clearer. This is still my favorite contemporary book!
Rating: Summary: Incredibly Unrealistic Review: I find it incredibly hard to believe that the FBI could be misled for 25 years, and have no clue as to who the stalker is. The stalker was given was too much credit for intelligence, or the FBI is filled with idiots. Either way, it still bugged me. I gave it two stars instead of one because I liked the emotional byplay between the hero and heroine. I would think twice about reading another book by this author, but she is definitely capable of more.
