Summary: I thought about firemen for days after reading this book....
Review: The O'Malley's is a great series of books and this one compliments the series very well.

I especially enjoyed the personal interaction that Dee Henderson seems to be so good at. I suppose I will never pass a fire station with out thinking about this book and that dreamy Jack.

This one had a great story line and lots of other stuff going on around the main story.

I liked it.

Summary: Henderson's most suspenseful story yet!
Review: The Protector is Dee's most suspenseful book yet. I'll admit, I wasn't thrilled with a book about firefighters, but my wife and I are reading the whole O'Malley series together. I read the first chapter and then set it down for a few days. However, she hooked me in chapter three and I could hardly put the book down after that. For about 300 pages she kept me wondering who the arsonist was.

Before The Protector, my favorite O'Malley book was The Negotiator. They're close for me, but I think The Protector is the better book overall. I base this on a few of things.

1. The Negotiator had a few scenes that were in place for nothing more than developing the romance aspects of the story - I do not recall any scenes in The Protector that did not further the mystery as well as the romance aspects of the book.

2. In The Protector, Henderson introduces fewer characters, but keeps the suspense and hides the villain's identity longer than in The Negotiator. In The Negotiator the mystery was solved early enough that the book continued on anti-climacticly. The Protector takes you right up to the end.

3. I finished The Protector with a greater appreciation for firefighters. This is the first of Henderson's books that has led me to a deeper appreciation of others. Cassie is thinking of Jack working during the Christmas holiday. Henderson was thoughtful enough to point out that firefighters not only rescue people and save lives during the holidays, but by so doing preserve the ability of their families to experience the holidays with joyous celebration rather than grief and mourning. I had never before thought about their work in that way.

As for characters...

1. Jack O'Malley is a well-developed character. However, Marcus is still my favorite of the O'Malley men thus far introduced.

2. Cassie, Jack's special interest. She is a wonderful character. She was a firefighter who was injured in a fire. She now adapts to burn scars and loss of hearing in one ear. The reality (self-consciousness) she now deals with was well-written. She's also dealing with making a living as something other than a firefighter - the job she loved. She's a very likable character.

The storyline is pretty good all the way through. Henderson has obviously done some research for the book. The arsonist is angry and trying to send a message. He uses a series of words at different fires. The message is analyzed by different characters as the story develops. This allows the reader to try to solve, not only the mystery, but also the riddle and get deeper into the story. This may be Henderson's most developed storyline as well.

This O'Malley story deals more with Jack and his friends and co-workers than it does the O'Malley family getting together to solve the mystery/problem. I really like the O'Malley family that Henderson has created. I missed them in this novel, but I still enjoyed the book a great deal.

I really think you'll enjoy this book. Please give it a try. However, you may want to start with The Negotiator if you haven't read any of the O'Malley books yet.

Summary: Wonderful book by an exceptional author!
Review: They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but I happened upon this book while browsing and I'm so thankful the cover caught my eye. The Protector was my first encounter with Dee Henderson and it was enough to get me hooked on this talented author.

This is the story of Jack and Cassie, 2 firefighters involved in an arson investigation. The characters are warm, funny and endearing and the plot is fast-paced and entertaining. Jack and Cassie must catch an arsonist before the fires being set get out of control. They must also deal with personal challenges (Jack's ill sister and Cassie's extensive injuries) as well as a growing attraction to each other along the way.

Dee Henderson is an invigorating breath of fresh air in Christian writing. Her characters are fascinating: forensic scientists, fighter pilots, CIA agents, ect. Her books are unique to Christian fiction in the sense that they are full of adventure and suspense. I have yet to be disappointed by any of her works and am eagerly awaiting her next release.

Summary: Awe inspiring
Review: They were six children who were placed in the same orphanage at about the same time and quickly became friends. They felt as if they were a family so when they left the orphanage they moved in together and changed their surname to O'Malley. Jennifer, the youngest and spunkiest sister is dying from spinal cancer but before she passes on she wants her beloved family to become Christians and believe in Jesus.

Jack O'Malley is a fire fighter that has seen the cruelty that man can do in the name of money. He is trying to learn the identity of the arsonist targeting the area worked by his fire company but it is Cassie Ellis, a former firefighter, who caught a glimpse of the firebug. Cassie is asked to return to duty in the hope she can point out the arsonist. Jack, who cares deeply for her, worries that being back in the firehouse will trigger bad memories of her own injuries that she received while fighting fires. This pair has the love to build a relationship but only if Jack finds the faith to believe in Jesus.

Dee Henderson has written another fantastic installment in the O'Malley saga. THE PROTECTOR reaches out to the soul of the reader enabling everyone to understand what the characters are going through. There are very few books that touch the soul and the heart while trying to deliver an inspiring message but Ms. Henderson always manages to accomplish this feat.

Summary: The Protector
Review: This is a great book! It looks like Dee Henderson has done it again. She has did a great job. You not only get a great story, but a better look at salvation and Firefighters. I almost wanted to become a firefighter after reading this book.

Summary: O.K. but want more about the family
Review: While I enjoyed learning about Jack, I want to know and hear more about the rest of the family. Tell me about Dave about his sister, about the rest. After you've read about them, all you get is...Kate was helping Dave make sandwiches or Dave went to see his sister. Hello, these people have become important to us, that is what a series is about. Give us more about the characters and what they look like, etc. It seems Dee is turning these out too quickly or something.

Summary: Dee Henderson does it again!
Review: With an ongoing series, there usually comes a book that is good, but not as good as the rest. Not so with Dee Henderson's O'MALLEY series. Each book brings us a different "family" member, yet each can stand alone with it's characters and story -and they all are great reads! Jack, the firefighter brother, is the central character of THE PROTECTOR. As in each of the O'Malley books, there is a mystery to solve (I was surprised at whodoneit!) as well as self discovery for the characters. Ms. Henderson writes characters that you can believe exist, that you can identify with as they struggle, and rejoice with as they find answers.

I really enjoyed meeting not only Jack and his friends in this book, but also Rachel, the subject of the next O'Malley book. Plus, we got up to date on the other family memebers...if you haven't read any thing from Dee Henderson - start now. If you have keep at it! THE PROCTECTOR won't let you down!
