Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: This is one of, if not the best book that I have read in a long time! A great start to a terrific series!
Rating: Summary: The O'Malleys have touched my heart Review: This book is excellent. I am an avid reader of the Palisades series and have already read the first chapter of Marcus O'Malley's book THE GUARDIAN. Dee does a wonderful job and I can't wait to read the rest of the O'Malley's stories. Do yourself a favor and pick up some Palisades romances. They'll make you laugh, cry and occasionally sigh.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't ring true Review: This is the first inspirational romance I've read. The author brings the concepts of religious faith and philosophy into a modern setting, and since this part of the book was interesting and worthwhile, I gave it two stars. As a suspense/romance novel, this book has several problems with the characters and plot. It's unrealistic in many ways: The main problem I find is that the villain in this novel has no compelling reason to come after Kate, yet he does. He supposedly has some history with her estranged father, but since her father is dead, there was no apparent motive for the bad guy to come after Kate. This makes suspense side of the plot very hard to accept. Secondly, the author hints of some terrible childhood that Kate escaped from, yet never tells the reader anything speciifc about what happened to her. Kate never explains her past to Dave, whom she supposedly loves. As a result, the reader never gets a chance to know Kate enough to empathize. Kate's model-perfect good looks, superb athletic ability, fake southern accent, and unnecessarilty large "family" make this novel too unrealistic to take seriously. I doubt that 7 kids in an orphanage could stick together for a lifetime, without being sent to separate foster homes. Only two of Kate's "family" members are main players in the story. The paper and ink wasted on the other O'Malleys would have been put to better use in building the main characters and plot. After reading this book, I don't think I'll bother to try the author's other novels.
Rating: Summary: Very Exciting Book Review: This is a great book -- really exciting! If you are going to read this book, you might want to buy her book, "Danger in the Shadows" and read that first. It is also extremely exciting, a great book, and it has some of the same characters as are in "The Negotiator" but at an early age in their life.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put this book down if I WANTED to! Review: I loved this book ~ I've been searching for a long time for a truly GOOD christian suspense that had a little romance mixed in. SOOOO tired of the generic romance christian books out there. This book was way way better than I thought it would be; I can't wait to get all of Dee Henderson's books!
Rating: Summary: You Caught Me! Review: That's right, you caught me reading a...gulp, dare I say it?...romantic mystery. First, let me say I originally purchased Henderson's novel for my wife. No, really. Second, I must tell you, this book is more mystery than romance. At least from this male's point of view. Oh, sure, Kate meets Dave, Kate falls in love with Dave, Kate and Dave face obstacles, and...well, I shouldn't tell you the end. But romance is in the air, no doubt. A true mystery is also at work here. Dee Henderson lays out the groundwork of her story with spartan efficiency--sometimes lacking a definitive narrative style-and tosses in enough details to make you buy into it. She's done her research. The dialogue, in particular, flows naturally and breathes life and personality into these characters. Though the assortment of minor characters might be confusing to some, I assume Henderson was fleshing out the story for this and future books in the O'Malley series. My wife, not an avid reader, finished the book a day before me. That's a good indication of "The Negotiator"s intrigue. The mystery is resolved, the roma--I mean, relationships come to satisfactory conclusions, and the lessons learned are Biblically sound and relevant. I've since purchased Henderson's "Danger in the Shadows"--for my wife, of course. But if you read my review here later, don't say I didn't warn you.
Rating: Summary: A Christian mystery Review: I love the combination of mystery and Christian ethics. This book starts out with questions about God and how he fits in with our modern life. A new twist. Usually Christian novels don't deal with doublts. I found this book enthralling. The characters are deep and you are interested in their future as well as faith. Finally a book for the Christian that is aslo a great mystery & action story.
Rating: Summary: Another great read by Dee Henderson Review: Wonderful book that kept me on the edge of my seat with the suspense and the romance of the story. Looking forward to her next novel!
Rating: Summary: Dee Henderson's "The Negotiator" Review: I did not enjoy this book. Though the inspirational romance subplot was touching and well-written, the main storyline was confusing and overpopulated with only tangentially relevant characters. It was virtually impossible to follow Kate O'Malley's thinking as she completed her investigation, because I could not keep the multiple characters separated in my mind. It did not help at all that Henderson referred to many of the characters by name only. Without the chance to meet the "suspects", they remained simply indistinct names; the plot got lost in a sea of forgettable suspects. Also, though Ms. Henderson writes authentic sounding dialogue, the rest of the text is flat. All in all, a regrettably frustrating read.
Rating: Summary: Dee Henderson has done it again! Review: With THE NEGOTIATOR Dee Henderson has again written a riveting story of romantic suspense with an underlying theme of Christian love. The mystery element is at the center of the story -- and what a mystery it is! The relationship between Dave and Kate is very realistically portrayed. I enjoyed this story so much I passed it on to my husband to read.
