Summary: Complex plot
Review: This book was too complicated for me. I didn't finish it. I don't know if Tom Clancy wrote it or just lent his name to it. But it is not up to his epics (such as, Debt of Honor). If have read all of his novels to date. But I think I will give up with this series.

Summary: I have never lived my self in to a book as mutch as this!!!!
Review: Exelent book. Exiting, fun, and futuristic. I loved the way Clancy lived his way into the book, creating slang for the youths, the VR, and all the other great stuff. YOU HAVE TO READ IT! Its a must!

Summary: Disappointing, coming from Tom Clancy
Review: Yeah Sure.. You surf the net in a Dodge Viper, and someone else the same space in a Boat, and you meet, and see each other as you would like to... AAARRGGHHH There's a limit! And this time, Tom Clancy hit it! What's best about Clancy is the research he puts into his work.. so that even in too much detail, he never gets unbelievable... in Net Force.. he's rarely believable.. Where are the people, are they all VR Skins.. I guess Clancy forgot about RW! Ridiculous Slang.. hardly realistic Martial Art. Clancy should stick to what he knows, leave Martial Arts to Lustbader

BAD BOOK! agreed, I read it all in one breath, but I'd read about anything. Disappointing! Skip the 2010 business, and get back to the present.. Write something like the Ryan series, or even Op-Center. NOT Net Force!

Summary: Great Idea, Typical Clancy Plot
Review: Although I found the representation of the internet 10 years from now a bit fanciful, I thought the book had a great plot line, and the characters were solid (Alex Michaels, the Selkie, ect). However fanciful the idea of the i-net in the future is, it is possible. We don't know what they're going to come up with next.

Summary: Net Force was a high flying, action packed thriller.
Review: From the first page Net Force was a high flying, action packed thriller. The combat style of the New York Times number one bestselling author was obvious. The book changed feelings from combat to meetings to assassination plots. I liked the way that Tom Clancy changed the setting from Washington D.C. to the Ukraine and back to Miami. Net force is an organization in the Federal Bureau of Investigation compiled to control the Net. Steve Day, the director of Net Force, is assassinated one night at a restaurant. This incident launches Alex Michaels, the new director of Net Force into an investigation. Alex Michaels has a problem of his own, an assassination plot is targeted for him. When one assassination attempt fails. Commander Michaels is now investigating two things, his own assassination plot and his former commander, Steve Day's actual assassination. Net Force is based in Washington D.C. Virtual Reality is also a major setting because the assassin of Steve Day uses his free time there. Also the book takes place in the Ukraine and Russia. The story is in the year 2010. I found Net Force to be a lot like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. Net Force didn't have as much action, but had a quicker moving plot. My favorite character was Alex Michaels because he was always cool even when somebody tried to kill him. Even though he knew he might be killed he tried to find the person who assassinated Steve Day. Another character that I liked was Toni Fiorella. Toni was Alex Michaels assistant. She really loved Commander Michaels and flirted with him a lot. Ms. Fiorella studied a karate art that was not similar to kung-fu or anything that many people used. It was called Silat. This book was very well written and had a great plot. Tom Clancy made his reputation a lot better by writing Net Force.

Summary: Audio-Book really bad
Review: I listened to this book for the full 4 hours and at the end I go, "No Way." #1 This guy has no sense of what the internet is or what it is going to be. If you want to drive get in a car not into VR. #2 No charcter developement. The charcters in this book are about as shallow as anyone could get away with creating. It was bad, real bad.

Summary: Wrong title: should be "Net Farce"
Review: I'll make just TWO direct quotes from the paperback book and leave others to judge:

1) "Oil was still the lubricant that ran Grozny's economy, though it was running out, bleeding away faster than it could have been replaced by ten thousand dinosaurs dying and instantly rotting each day - a thing even Steven Spielberg and all his movie magic could not provide" (p.30)

2) "A Marine (sic) in dress uniform poured coffee from a silver pot into a cup balanced perfectly on a saucer, then set the steaming brew down next to Carver on the right..." (.36)

I'm at P.69 of 505 pages ... any bets that I'll finish it?

(As for the "(creator)" thing, I can only chuckle!)

Dear Amazon... I think you need a "ZERO STAR" category.

Summary: Good idea, Not so good execution
Review: I've been a Tom Clancy fan for years, but usually avoided the "Tom Clancy's xxx" novels. Net-Force came out, and looked interesting enough to change my mind. Unfortunately, the book didn't live up to its potential. The characters were interesting, and the idea of a net task force in the FBI was intriguing, but there were a few points that made it less than stellar.

1) The VR representation of the Internet was unwieldy and unbelievable. I just couldn't believe that it would work, no matter how hard I worked to suspend my disbelief.

2) The teen slang. To be honest, it read like the invention of a middle-aged man who thinks he's hip, but is completely out of touch with today's youth, let alone tomorrow's.

Over-all, it was an enjoyable, quick read (far better than the mini-series, much as I like Scott Bakula) and if there's another, I'll probably read it, but I wouldn't go out of my way looking for it.

Summary: WEAK... At Best.
Review: It is hard to believe that Clancy had anything to do with writing this book. I have read all of his other works at least once. The descriptions of technology and the plot were incredibly weak. This book is just not worth a reader's time. If you want to read some good Tom Clancy, start with his pre-Op Center materials.
