Summary: 100% BS - It is actually 0 stars.
Review: The last time I read Clancy was years ago, I dropped his material because of the inaccuracy and BS themes. I made the mistake of picking up this piece of thrash and I have to say, he is at his absolute worst. The BS just gets more and more farfetched. Stay away from this one unless you are so gullible and ignorant as to think that there is any resemblance to real life in any of his works. Anyone with any kind of government or military background will quickly realize that this is pure BS. The characters, plot, anything about his books.

Summary: Easy to put down
Review: My wife got to about page 80 and then gave up ... I lasted to about 100 ... my general comment is "It's not a sign of a good story when you just don't care about what is going to happen next." ... in a word, "tedious" ... I was very disappointed.

Summary: Net Force
Review: Tom Clancy's book Net Force is a very engrossing and exciting take on the future. I have read some of the reviews for this book and they say its not realistic enough and its not real ''sci fi.'' Well it doesn't need to be ''sci fi''. Does a book always have to be classified under a specific genre? No I don't believe so. On to the book's key points. I thought that Clancy's look on the future was very thought out and well cocieved. Although at times it was confusing whether they were in the Real World or Virtual Reality. Saying that is almost a compliment though because he makes Virtual Reality so believable. I thought that the hint of romance between Alex and Toni(Alex is Toni's boss) was a good way to break up the action in between action packed parts. The last thing I want to comment on is Clancy's story of Ty the teenage son of John Howard. Clancy did a steller job of portraying a teenage boy's feeling he must have vivid memories of that time in his life because he expressed Ty in a way that many author's couldn't or wouldn't do. Thank you for reading this review I hope this has been helpful in your book browsing

Summary: Good Yarn!
Review: This is the first Net Force book I read, and I have to say I liked it! I was browsing the other comments, and altough sometimes the action is slow and the yarn turns slightly childish, I think the series is a good work by this talented writer. I have enjoyed Op-Center and Rainbow Six to the max, and have just ordered two more Net Force novels. Can't wait to see VR net surfing for real, at the rate we're going! :)

Summary: Bad Clancy, weak sci-fi
Review: I'm not a hyper-critical reader. I like Clancy's stuff. I even like the Op-Center books.Though Clancy apparently doesn't write them they have fascinating political problems. I also like the characters and what goes on in their personal lives. But Net-Force is weakly written and plotted. It's a chore to get through these books and the ideas are recycled from better sci-fi novels. Lose this series, Mr. Clancy. It's not taking us into the 2010s. It's going nowhere.

Summary: My FAVORITE BOOK! HE STRIKES AGAIN!
Review: This book had everything, a good storyline, a mystery type format, with tons of tech stuff about VR and assassains. Lots of action. It hooked me in the 1st chapter when Steve Day got killed (Net Force Leader) and This guy Alex gets appointed leader. And he wants revenge on his death. It seems like it COULD happen. It's a little Sci-Fi with the VR, but it's not like way off, it uses current weapons, and is really good. I'm 12 years old, and I ONLY buy Tom Clancy's books. After I read "The Hunt for the Red October", i was a true Clancy fan.

Summary: It's hard to believe this is a Clancy book.
Review: I'm relieved to see that I'm not the only reader who thinks Clancy's writing has gone woefully downhill, or that he's endorsed another writer (for whatever reason), without any regard to quality--or for his loyal followers. Whatever his reasons may be, I won't pick up another Clancy book. THIS is an insult.

Summary: Clancy lost respect for his readers.
Review: I'm a pretty ordinary guy. I like a good read.

Back in 1986, I discovered Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" and became a big fan. The subject matter that he chose for his books appealed to me on a basic level, and the attention that he paid to detail earned my respect. While he was no Patrick O'Brian, I could not find any major faults with his writing style. And so I bought and read all of his novels.

But over the years my confidence in Clancy's ability to deliver a consistent level of quality has waned to the vanishing point. And now this book, "Net Force," - which I bought in an airport against my better judgment - has stripped from me my belief that he has any respect for his audience left. I had to fight the overwhelming urge to throw the book away unfinished every few pages.

As a matter of fact, I am pretty certain - just from the writing style (inane dialog, cardboard characters, total lack of attention to detail, the worst kind of tokenism, nearly no understanding of today's technology, much less that of 11 years from now, etc, etc, etc) - that CLANCY DIDN'T EVEN WRITE THIS BOOK. I would guess that he is managing the "Tom Clancy" brand and letting employees or partners like Pieczenik use his name for a percentage. Well, it happens all the time, but most corporations have the foresight to do quality-checking before allowing their brand-name to be used. A good businessman always looks out to make sure that his customers are getting value - if only to make sure they have come back. Clancy doesn't seem to care what kind of crap we get for our hard-earned money.

I'll grant that I could be wrong about Clancy not writing this book. But if I am wrong, that's even worse. It means that Clancy is literally writing in his sleep, cranking out another one to pay for that new house or jet or whatever. The morons will buy it anyway. Right, Tom? Wrong! I've had it with Clancy. "Net Force" is an insult to the reader's intelligence (even if the reader doesn't realize it), and it is the last "Tom Clancy" book I will buy (or read).

Are you confused by mixture of good and bad reviews about "Net Force"? Or any of its sequels? Or any of the "Tom Clancy's Op-Center" books (with Pieczenik), for that matter? Don't be. Look carefully at some of both the good and the bad. You will often find that the people who write the negative reviews on Clancy books are making valid, logical and well-thought out arguments. On the other side, you will often find that the people who write the positive reviews are making spelling mistakes.

If that doesn't discourage you from wasting your money, remember two things:

1. there are plenty of books out there that have 100% of the reviews saying that they are great (as opposed to this one, which has 50% of the reviewers writing in to give it the lowest possible marks)

2. if you must give him your money, there are some good Clancy books from the early days (try the first three Jack Ryan novels and "Red Storm Rising") that are worth reading.

And remember, writing a negative review takes a real effort - most of the time, you just wouldn't waste your energy on a mediocre or bad book. Think of this as a warning from a friend. That's how it's meant.

HERE ARE SOME ACTUAL QUOTES FROM "NET FORCE" (Can you believe it? I picked these up by flipping through the pages for 10 minutes):

'"Hey Sarge, how's it goin'?" "Not bad, for an old Hispanic." He grinned.' - page 73

'One was never so alive as when dancing with death.' - page 185

'It was great living here in the future, a mere decade after the turn of the century. If 2010 had such wonders, what might it look like in another twenty or thirty years?' - page 3

'But then, when you got right down to it, any neighborhood was a bad one to die in when death came from a hard and sudden sleet of submachine-gun fire.' - page 13

'Lust reared its head inside Tyrone. At the same time, fear dried his mouth to a consistency roughly that of a pile of bones left to bleach in the Gobi desert sunshine.' - page 200, "Net Force"

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: High-tech and interesting
Review: I like the fact that this book takes place in the future. The technology is interesting to read about. When tom clancy talks about his opinion on the future, you can presume a good read.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: One of Clancy's better titles
Review: It is a great book. It is a good foreshadowing of what life may be like in the future. If you like war and technology then you will love this book.
