Summary: Higgins is the master of suspense
Review: I ahve been a big fan of Higgins ever since i read The eagle has landed after i saw the movie. This book certainly lived up to the high expectaions of mine. The characters, while not very deep, are likable. And the plot is truly interesting.

Summary: another great read
Review: I debated between four or five stars and gave it five stars because I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. It piqued my interest at the first with the 60 year old hit woman and kept it all the way through the book. She is killing the Sons of Erin and the British and American special intelligence are trying to find out who is doing it and why. They are also looking for the connection at the White House who has been giving out secret information to the IRA group. I read this book in one day. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Is it time for Higgins to hang it up?
Review: I have been reading Higgins off and on since "The Eagle Has Landed" was new, but not recently. I was stunned by this poor effort by a one time very good (but not great) writer. I'm even more surprised by how he was able to slip this one past so many of his obvious fans.

First, I need to dispell one myth here. This is not a fast read as some seem to believe. It is an incredibly short book. The hard cover version came in at just over 300 pages but is virtually double spaced. However, quantity would not matter if there was something of substance here. Unfortunately, the plot has more holes in it than swiss cheese.

Police work is largely a matter of tracking down leads and eliminating suspects. Thanks to computers, cross checking crimes and people's movements is not as problematic as it once was. Early in the story, it is discovered that someone is using an unusual calibar pistol to commit murders on both sides of the Atlantic. The authorities quickly (and correctly) guess that the killer must be using a private plane to get her gun in and out of the US and Britain. Yet they fail to do two things that would seem to be basic. They do not search their computers for other murders with the same, rare gun, and more significantly, they never check the flight plans of private aircraft to provide leads to the killer's identity. (Of course, if they had, this very short book would have been even shorter.)

The killer is identified in the first pages of the book. She is an elderly woman on a mission. She eventually provides a clue to her identity to her primary, intended victim who is the real villian of the book. He should have been able to snap his fingers and either know who she is or find out quickly. Instead, he spends page after page whining about who it could be. At the same time, the authorities are on to him, but he keeps slipping out of their traps, an apparent device to provide another few pages to this dismal excuse for a novel.

Higgins seems to be out of ideas. He has been pushing the same characters at us for decades. It might be time for him to consider resting on his laurels and living the good life.

Summary: Old friends are the best!
Review: I have been reading several novels a week since my days as an English major in the mid 50's. In those days I read Graham Greene, and Evelyn Waugh in class, and Alaistar MacLean in the Saturday Evening Post. I have always emjoyed the cratsmanship of MacLean, and Jack Higgins is the closest contemporary writer to him. "The White House Connection" is the latest Higgins' novel that I have read, and Sean Dillon and crew are there to liven up the action. There is a fast moving plot, wonderful characterters, both good and evil. Too bad Lady Helen will not be available for later stories. Perhaps there might be room for Hedley as part of the Brigadier's staff in future stories? He would add a little variety to the team. Old friends are the best and I truly enjoyed another fine Jack Higgins novel. When is his next novel due to be published?

Summary: Never fails to deliver a great story!
Review: I have followed Mr. Higgin's work for several years, reread most of his novels. He truly is an author who has created memorable characters, great plot lines, and satisfying reading. There are several authors out there who have done remarkable work, among them: Ken Follet, Frederick Forsythe, and I can go on and on. On the other hand, a lot of the obscure authors, like Richard Greenwald's Spear of Golgotha, got little exposure in the US-too bad, it was a great read. There are a lot of so-called thrillers which are worth the time and money (books aren't cheap), that deliver. I stopped believing the so-called reviewers several dollars ago, and started reading what other readers on Amazon have to say. A lot of them are right on the money because they don't get paid to review books by the companies who spend a lot on marketing and distribution. Amazon has done a great service to readers. Thank you. And Mr. Higgins, keep up the GREAT work.

Summary: Higgins has done it again!
Review: I have just finished this book and loved it! I have read a lot of books by Higgins (aka Harry Patterson) and have enjoyed them - especially the ones with Sean Dillon, Hanna Bernstein and Brigadier Ferguson. If you like the Nazi and World War II stuff, Higgins is your man! Books like Cold Harbor, The Eagle had Landed and The Eagle has Flown are page turners.

Mr. Higgins - when do you have another book coming out? I am waiting patiently!

Summary: Give Me More!
Review: I love this book. Especially Sean D., but thats besides the point. It was worth the sleep I lost while reading it. This book and all the others are worth reading. Flight of Eagles is also worth missing sleep for. Only a few books have ever made me feel so strongly after finishing that I have wanted to read it again, just so I didn't lose that feeling. I WANT MORE!

Summary: Excellent
Review: I love White House Connection. It was suspenseful and exciting. A Bit predictable. But an excellent read. Go out and buy this book.
