Rating: Summary: Upset. I am upset. Review: I have read this unbelieveable piece of nonsense titled "Tom Clany's Op Center: Balance of Power". I don't want to talk about it's ignorance of Spain and Europe, nor about it's idea of a civil war between Spanish states (it's like thinking about that a war between California and Colorado is possible, absolutely THE SAME), no, I don't want to talk aobout it. Please, read the rates of the reviews of the USA readers: 10, 8, 6... , and read the rates of the spaniard ones: 1,1,1... As I suspected. We know the reality of our country, and all our medium citizens know something bout the contemporary reality about USA; the opposite, as the rates show, doesn't happen: the medium citizen of the USA have NO IDEA of what happens in the world, far away the frontiers of ther own state. Well, you have a serious problem as conclusion: you have a really bay education system, if it produces readers like this, and, of course, ignorant, arrogant and silly writers like this.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Op-Center novels! Review: I loved this book! It had all the elements for which I read the Op-Center books--interesting characters, great action scenes, mystery and easy to read. I enjoyed seeing more of Hood's personal life as well as another character's past. The introduction of a new character was exciting and very well written. I loved the action scenes, the way Op-Center manages everything and how they receive their information. It was exciting and interesting all the way through! One of the best Op-Center books written!
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I thought this book was a little hard to get started with but when you got to the end it started geting better and better. It is about how a leader is corrupting spain and op-center is taking drastic measures to take him out. alot of action more and suspense but not one of tom clancys best books This book has torture scenes and bloody scenes, some surprises but mostly the usual stuff I do not recommend a parent buying this book for there kid they would probably get started then stop reading it because they thought it was boring.
Rating: Summary: NOT in my top 10 list! Review: I want to begin by saying that I read not to critizice someone else's writting but to enjoy and spend some time emerged in different worlds and adventures that I could not otherwise experience :), and that because of that I do not consider any book to be GOOD or BAD, they are just different. That said, when I started this book I had high hopes based on the writters name, but I was deeply dissapointed. The story never seems to get your full attention, there is no action developed long enough to keep you turning the page, the plot seems to stall for the most part of the book, heck not even good caracter development, to the point where it is even hard to figure out who the main caracter is. As a native spanish speaker I was very amused by the many innacuracies in the "spanish" lines in the text. If you are going to use a foreign language in your dialog the least you can do is research it and have it edited with a little bit more accuracy and interest. I mention this because it is not an occasional use of the spanish language but a very frequent one, and it gets to be annoying. As I said at the start of the review, there is no GOOD or BAD book in my opinion, they are all somewhat entertaining, but this is one that is not going to make my list of memorable reads.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely the best of the "Op-Center" series! Review: I was disappointed with the first Op-Center book, it was so obviously NOT written by Clancy and lacked his intricate web of story line and whatever it is that makes Clancy such a great writer. However, "Balance of Power" did not disappoint me in any way - what a great read! Intricate plot lines, interesting characterizations, great action and suspense to the last page made for a book that cannot be put down - just like a typical Clancy work. Do it again!
Rating: Summary: Only an american can writte this book Review: In my oppinion someone that has written this book is someone that has never been in Spain and if he likes to writte about fiction he sould avoid using names, places or, at least, get some information about what he is written about.
Rating: Summary: This book is a nosense, Spain is not the third wolrd. Review: In that book Clancy translate the spanish sentences whit a computer and you can see that some are false. The "Guadia Real" is not a elite group of de Spanis army. And there are not any political problem in Spain, Catalan and Basques arel good people an we have our diferences but we won't do other civil war. And If someone wants to take the control of Sapin, he won't go to the Royal Palace it is a nosense, there are other political and military places more important than the Royal Palace.
Rating: Summary: Insoportable!!!!! Review: INSOPORTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Pathetic! Review: Is one of the most riduculous books I have ever read. I used to enjoy Clancy books and Red Storm Rising and The Hunt for the Red October are still between my favorites. But in this case I can`t stop myself from writing this. I hope Mr. Clancy will ever come to Spain to meet the people and the society of this country. Or at least next time he will read something about modern Spain. Maybe he thinks we are a poor South American country!
Rating: Summary: A major disappointment Review: It's a third and probably the last Clancy's book that I have read (or bought, anyways). The plotlines are more than predictable, and Clancy's trademark bad guys killing bad guys killing bad guys being courageously killed by good guys is somewhat less entertaining than it used to be in the Red Storm Rising. Even the lengthy military acronyms and denominations appearing here and there (like "each was armed with a Z-62 submachine gun or a Modelo L-1-003 rifle adapted to accomodate standard M-16 magazines") seem to be out of place. I have a feeling that any Spaniard would laugh outloud at the novel's settings and Spanish realia. Ironically, the best (or just entertaing) pieces are not the battle scenes or gadget descriptions, but the personal thoughts of an Op-center officer, whose marriage is heading towards a divorce. To sum up - I guess that Tom Clancy just couldn't deal with the collapse of the evil Soviet Union, and the best of his books are unfortunately in the past. Just where the Soviet Union is.
