Rating: Summary: I cannot believe that Steve Martini wrote this book Review: Mr. Martini has never failed me until now. This book does not even read like his work. If there were such a thing as writing a book by the numbers, as in painting pictures by the numbers, this would be a good candidate for it. The transitions were awkward and confusing. The premise is not so much a mystery as a spy story. I threw in the towel after 150 pages and decided that if Martini wrote this he must have had his computer on automatic pilot.
Rating: Summary: Explosive! Review: Martini's book reads like the headlines in the papers the past few weeks - terrorists smuggling explosive devices over the US/Canadian border into Washington. The characters are gripping, the action fast-paced. And while I always expect a twist in the end with my Martini novel, this one really blew me away!
Rating: Summary: Critical Disappointment Review: I'm normally a Martini fan, but this one lacked something - sympathetic and interesting characters for one thing. I think a large part of the problem is that he tried to incorporate the viewpoints of too many characters. Did we really need to read about the viewpoint of the Militia guy with the cute posterior? Martini kept skipping from one set of characters to another. In the end, I really didn't like any of them.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good! Review: I enjoyed this thriller very much and thought it was fast paced and interesting. It's not the author's best, but the pokes he takes at opinion poll based leaders (what president could he possibly mean?) were greatly appreciated. If such a situation faced the country today, well, it makes one shudder. Overall, nice job.
Rating: Summary: Very Well Done Thriller! Review: My father in law gave me this book and told me "it's great". I checked it out and thought "guy book". But it's not. One of the main characters is a woman and her adventures (as well as the other subplots) really held my interest. If you like thrillers, this is definitely a good read. This was my first book by Mr. Martini but it won't be my last.
Rating: Summary: Critical Mass Review: I thought Critical Mass was a great book. I hardly ever read and when I do read I end up not finishing the book I am reading because I get bored with it. This book, on the other hand, kept me interested from the beginning to the end. The excitement and mystery kept on going from the very beginning of the book to the very last sentence. At first I was kind of confused because the book was talking about different groups of people in different parts of the world at the same time, but after I read further, the different groups started tying together and things started to really connect making the book extremely good.
Rating: Summary: WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE BEST!!! Review: I've read every one of the Martini books and this tops them all. It was full of suspense, terror, intrigue, mystery, romance, and current events. This seems to be a really well thought out plot and was put together perfectly. I read this in two sittings.... Thanks Steve!
Rating: Summary: So compelling you will want to read this in one sitting! Review: "Page-turner" was redefined when steve Martini came out with Critical Mass. Definitely able to captivate the reader enough finish the book in one sitting. Unfortunately, I had to do it in two. I had never heard of the author before, but I will DEFINITELY be reading anything else he writes or has written.
Rating: Summary: Good Read, From a Non-Martini Fan!!! Review: I enjoyed this book completely. The characters were compelling and enlightening. The story moved along after the first 100 pages. People are being overly critical of someone who has established himself in one genre and is now taking a risk in another. Enjoyed the read and look forward to more outside of the "court"!!!
Rating: Summary: Five stars for Critical Mass! Review: Having read all of Steve Martini's novels, it boggles my mind to read such critical reviews of "Critical Mass" from other readers. What do you people want?? This book is chock full of Martini's trademark dry wit, informed background knowledge, and white-knuckle suspense. I couldn't be more pleased, and my thanks to the author for another job well done. A throughly enjoyable read.
