Rating: Summary: Good plot line, but marred by annoyingly flawed characters Review: The plot was well done, and now it looks like we have another recurring character who will be up to no good in the next one. The problem I have with this book is with two of the characters. Sharon is one of the most narcissistic, self-absorbed and thoroughly unsympathetic characters I have met in a book. Paul should dump her and Marry Ann Farris. And Chatterjee should have been tied up and carried off the premises - two thoroughly useless people. And how could a happenin' guy like Paul Hood fall for such a superficial person as Sharon. C'mon Jeff (Rovin), fix the characters next time. Otherwise, a good read.
Rating: Summary: A Really Good Book - Beginning to End Review: The reason I like this book is because it is interesting right to the end. I like the way Tom Clancy decided to write the book from both the terrorist's and the "good guy's" point of view. I got a better picture of the motive for all of the characters. I also like the way he developed the problem in the marriage for Paul Hood so he had reasons for not wanting to go back to the Op-Center after he quit. (He quit because his marriage was falling apart since he was spending too much time at the Op-Center) The beginning is the only reason why I gave it four stars. It started off interesting, but a little too slow for my tastes. An example is how he describes everything in immense detail like when one of the terrorists, Downer, said, "Warm beverages are better for you. They make you sweat. They clear the system." Do we really need to know if Downer prefers his drinks warm or cold? I agree with developing the characters personality, but not to the point where the author is telling every little thing about the character. He did, however, do a good job in developing the storyline so you knew what was going on throughout the whole book. I really felt mad at his wife when she told him that she would never forgive him for going back to the Op-Center after his daughter had been captured even though the only reason why he went back is so that he could help their daughter.
Rating: Summary: I have read better Review: The story has an interesting plot line but Mr. Clancy spent way to much time writing about Sharon and Paul's relationship. I was hoping for a good action story, not one about two parents fighting about the best way to live their life.
Rating: Summary: Alright Review: This book does not compare to Clancy's other works(i.e. Clear and Present danger, Patriot Games, etc.), but out of all the Op-Center books, this is the best, and most realistic. Paul Hood is great, but still not a Jack Ryan. Easy, fast and entertaining read.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This book was great. It's my first Tom Clancy book and I just loved it. The action is outstanding and I like the way the story somehow ties in with each character. I am thoroughly looking forward to the next Clancy book I read.
Rating: Summary: Tom Clancy's Op-Centre State of Siege Review: This book would have been great, but Rovin totally strays away from the plot of the story. I mean, how probable is it that Paul Hood's daughter, Harleigh, gets to play at the U.N. gala dinner?
Rating: Summary: Beaches and Planes Review: This is a good book to read on the beach or to kill time on a long plane ride. Plot is OK but basically lacks imagination. Becoming convinced that Clancy has a bullpen of writers working on this stuff and he spends more time reading the cash flow numbers than he does reading the manuscripts.
Rating: Summary: Franklin, Tenn, must have been reading a different novel Review: This is a razor's-edge ride. The hostage-takers do what fanatics often do: kill selected prisoners. My reading of the novel is that the other nations, the ones that still had delegates captive, were supposed to pick up a larger share of the ransom each time another delegate died. I found this totally credible and chilling in its portrayal of a situation that gets out of control. As for the President not knowing what was going on, does the bombing of the Chinese embassy ring a bell?
Rating: Summary: An exciting nailbiting book. Review: This is by far the best op-center book that has been written. This is everyone's worst nightmare come true. A group of schoolchildren taken hostage by a group of international terrorists. Paul Hood plays the role of hero-father effectively. This is a must buy book. My only question is, will we see the terrorist who escaped to Hollywood in another book?
Rating: Summary: Spent the whole evening lost in the book Review: This is one of Mr Clancys' finest novels. I started reading this just after supper one Friday evening and I couldn't put it down. If a parent would read this novel they will assiciate the tension, the fear, and the dread of possbly losing one of the children.
