Rating: Summary: Two Thumbs Up !! Review: Guys, lets be real. This book is great.. It really is. The characters are in-depth, but not too much so it gets sickening. The action is worked out up till the details, ever characters thoughts are described so well, that you almost think that your thinking with the person in question. To me, when reading this book I can really "live" the story. And that, again: to me means that it is a splendid book. Two thumbs up !
Rating: Summary: Clancy delivers again Review: I agree with the previous review -- the action is good. It is certainly a good read and worthy of the Clancy name. I have always loved the Op Center series and this book is no exception -- however, I must admit that although the action is well done (and the politics are too), these books are no match for his Jack Ryan series (especially Debt of Honor and Executive Orders). still, a must-read. (I definitely hope Paul Hood returns to Op Center for the next book.)
Rating: Summary: Mr. Clancy where are you? Review: I am a BIG Clancy fan but this latest Op-Center offering was less than spectacular. The characters and plot had the makings for a great novel, what happened? This reader felt that the authors needed to get a book out in a hurry. I don't believe the readers are interested in Paul's personal life as they are in Paul, leader of Op-Center. Also, It didn't take 368 pages to introduce the character of Georgiev. Despite this review I'm still a Clancy fan.
Rating: Summary: Oh Dear Review: I am apparently in a minority of one but I am beginning to find Mr Clancy et al right-wing polemics a little alarming. From strong beginnings with Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and particularly Sum of all Fears, his novels (including his mainstream as well as Op Center novels) have deteriorated in paranoid, simplistic visions of a Pax Americana who owes nothing to the rest of the world and is justified using any means to achieve any ends it sees fit.I am aware that none of these novels reflect 'reality', but their continued popularity may reveal dangerous tendencies on the part of their fans to believe this is the way the world could/should be. The US represents the greatest civilisation that the world has ever seen... if these books represent the views of its population, is in danger of going the same way as its predecessors
Rating: Summary: Growing old--there are other good thriller writers out there Review: I don't like to write negative things so the less said the better. I don't understand why Tom Clancy has to put his name on everything he can-- doesn't he have enough money? This book was not up to standard. You want some good thrillers by authors you haven't heard of? Try Andy McNabb's SAS books. Or Bob Mayer's Special Forces novels such as CUT OUT, SYNBAT or ETERNITY BASE.
Rating: Summary: This could happen tomorrow Review: I enjoy and admire Paul Hood, Director of Op-Center and I empathize with Paul Hood, father & husband. I agree with a fellow reviewer. Paul should dump Sharon, the most artificial, self-centered, neurotic and irritating character I've ever met in a novel. I am eagerly looking forward to the next Op-Center novel. With a new bond of respect and admiration between them, Paul and General Rogers should be a dynamite command team for the NCMC.
Rating: Summary: Very good but not up to standard Review: I found this Op-Centre was not up to the standard of the others in the series. There was also a discrepancy in the history of the characters between the books. August escapes the POW camp in Games of State, but in State of Seige he had to be rescued. Also, the Sharon factor became annoying but did put a twist in the story..... where's Nancy when you need her... I still found it a good read and cant wait for the next in the series
Rating: Summary: Teenagers - This one's for you... or is it? Review: I have read ALL of Mr. Clancy's books, and the truth had become clear to me with each one I've read - these are between the shallowest books I've encountered. How much more can we hear about super American heros who act against the rules and laws in order to save the world on there own??? According to the plot a U.S General, a Colonel and a head of a goverment agency are violating their own country and international laws and go and make themselves their own justice... I sure wouldn't want those guys in my military during war... Ooh - and don't forget that right after that they become national heros!!! And the U.S president himself rescue's them from the BAD U.N General-secretary (although they have disobeyed a direct order from the white house), and by how? - of course - by showing her that the U.S is stronger and doesn't realy care about other's laws... This whole thing is begining to have a bad smell indeed. Does the need for a strong (but 'true' and 'sincere') persona backed up by 'brave' knowing all military officers rings a bell? Do you want your teenagers to get exposed to this kind of truth? that if you don't like something you better make your own justice - your own rules? Think about it the next time you buy one of clancy's books - I know I won't.
Rating: Summary: yet another disapointment Review: I just finished reading this book and I am really disapointed; again!! If you compare this book to the first Clancys (red storm raising, the cardinal of Kremlin) you clearly see that Clancy is not writing any more. The style is different it is not as good. There was 2 interesting things however: the Sharon storyand the fact that Clancy doesnot bore us with his political opinions. Clancy is not making any efforts anymore. He churns 3 books a year and hope his name will be enough to sell. Well Tom not for this customer anymore!
Rating: Summary: A tour de force of how things work and don't work in gvt. Review: I was amazed at how much bureaucratic and anti-bureaucratic wrangling there is in a novel that's focused on one incident in one place. If this is an example of how government works (and I suspect it is), we definitely need more people like Paul Hood!
