Rating: Summary: McNally-lite (pretty tough since McNally was already light) Review: It takes only a few paragraphs to tell that Lawrence Sanders is gone. I never thought that the McNally books were Sanders best work, but now that he's gone, and someone's taken over the series, I realize that Sanders did a better job with this series than I had thought. This book really needed an editor. There are missing transitions, strange references to events we had not read about, and a general lack of attention to detail. Also, I figured the entire story out very early in the game, and that's something I usually don't do. It makes Archy seem stupid, instead of just amusingly casual, in his detecting.
Rating: Summary: A fun entertaining novel Review: Of course nobody can replace the great Sanders but I thought this book did much better than the first one. The first one didn't quite catch the rhythm of the earlier books but I thought this one tripped along quite nicely. Had I not known of Sanders' death, this one might have fooled me completely. McNally is truly a delightful character. Feel sorry for the long suffering Connie, though--I'd like to send her a copy of The Rules! <lol>

Rating: Summary: ANOTHER GREAT MCNALLY STORY! Review: OK, OK, it's not Lawrence Sanders. He was great and no one can replace him but this is still a great book. If you love McNally and his cast of S. FL characters you will like this book. If you're only interested in the originals by Sanders that's fine - skip it. I for one love the settings and the characters (and their interaction) and found the book fun and enjoyable. In other words it's a typcial McNally story. Buy it and enjoy it. McNally lives on.
Rating: Summary: McNALLYâ¿¿S FOLLY â¿¿ Strong book series showing Review: Palm Beach playboy and part-time private investigator Archy McNally adds the title of theatre director to his credits in an effort to solve a good old fashion whodunit. The deceased was Archy's client who hired him to unmask a con artist who is selling soothsayer services to the elite island ladies at five hundred bucks a sitting. In between Archy's usual maturations â€" cheating on girlfriend Connie, smoking English Ovals, padding his expense report at Daddy's law firm, and rarely drinking before noon â€" Archy eventually stumbles onto the truth before the evening cocktails. (Yes, the rich are different.) For McNally fans, all the usual suspects are part of this 'play within a play,' from wing nut Binky Watrous to the bar crowd at the Pelican Club. Their personalities are loony as ever, even though the book series baton has been passed from writer Lawrence Sanders, who sadly died, to Vincent Lardo. For the most part Mr. Lardo has made a smooth transition, although his portrayal of some of the characters differs somewhat from Mr. Sanders. Rather than dwell on what is missing, much has been added, such as a Hamlet-like play within a play. Its cute and boorish, which is part of the spirit of this series. Kudos for Mr. Lardo for maintaining the fun while 'trying out' some new stuff with the bunch from route A1A.
Rating: Summary: A late bloomer but still nice. Review: Perhaps Lardo has finally found his stride and fallen into step. This novel is a particularly good read. Don't take it seriously and you will do fine. Buy it in paperback if you must have a copy, otherwise check it out of the local library. Enjoy the book for the fun of it then move on.
Rating: Summary: Close, but no cigar! Review: Sanders and I go clear back to The First Deadly Sin. His descrptions of food and dress have always been entertaining to me. When Archy first appeared on the scene I felt he was a light weight compared to other characters, but I grew to love him anyway. Lardo has done an amazingly good job in picking up the threads. The plot was obvious, I had it figured out almost from the beginning. You need to work on that Vince. Sanders kept us guessing to the end. Please keep going, I would miss Archy when I need something funny and light.

Rating: Summary: McNally Lives On! Review: Thanks to Vincent Lardo, fans can continue to enjoy the adventures of this Florida bon vivant - investigator. I look forward to the next installment which will probably be called MCNALLY'S BY-PASS unless our beloved hero changes his eating and drinking habits.
Rating: Summary: Another McNally Delight! Review: Thanks to Vincent Lardo, McNally fans can continue to enjoy the adventures of this Florida bon vivant. Mr. Lardo has captured the style of Lawrence Sanders to perfection. One caveat...the jacket blurb gives away too much of the plot. I suggest you simply turn to page one and begin reading. I look forward to McNally's next adventure which will probably be called "McNally's By-Pass" unless he changes his eating, drinking and smoking habits!
