Summary: Archy McNally Survives
Review: I have been hooked on this series from the start. The author although not Lawrence Sanders is excellent in preserving the tone and feel of the characters in the previous novels. The story kept me interested. I remember being skeptical when the James Bond series was continued after Ian Fleming died, but the new author John Gardner, while unlike Lardo was a known writer on his own, kept me reading. I look forward to more McNally volumes.

Summary: Light, easy reading
Review: I have not read any other McNally novels, however, I have read other Lawrence Sanders' books. This book was a light, easy read, however, wasn't overly complicated or intriguing. The characters were enjoyable, if not eccentric. Good, but not great.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A fun entertaining novel
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Lawrence Sanders has a knack of writing light fun novels with entertaining characters that are just a pleasure to sit back and enjoy. I found the plot just enought to keep a string of episodes together, and just what is needed for an afternoon by the pool relaxing.

Summary: Loving it
Review: I thought Vince did a good job with Dilemma, but Folly was light years better. The characters have more life than in Dilemma, and the story has more twists. I was able to figure out early the connection between the phony and his sources, but the faded star's past husband caught me.

Give Lardo a chance. He's gotten a lot better, and through him we still have Archy.

Summary: Not nearly as good as Lawrence Sanders
Review: I was saddened at the death of Lawrence Sanders, however I became excited when I found out that Archy McNally would live on due to the Lawrence Sanders estate allowing Vincent Lardo to continue writing the mystery stories of Archy McNally. Unfortunately, I was dissapointed in the outcome.

While some elements of Archy's whim and tact are in the book, I find the character lacking any charm. The vocabulary of Archy belongs in a 1940's or 1950's "B" movie rather than that of Archy. The plot is unimaginative and one dimensional. The spirit of the novel is lacking and it is strictly "by the numbers". This author dosen't even describe in delicious detail the snacks, breakfast, lunch and dinners that Archy usually describes (a Sanders trademark).

The heroine is also lacking in whit and charm. All together a big let down...And that is too bad since I enjoy the old Archy McNally. I am sure Vincent Lardo is a good author in other subjects, however he missed the target in this endeavor.

Summary: Lardo gets points for effort, but falls flat
Review: I was thrilled to see the new McNally book, not realizing that Lawrence Sanders had passed away and missing the "Vincent Lardo" at the bottom. I regret missing it, because when I began the book, it took me all of two paragraphs to realize something was amiss, and it was actually an effort for me to keep reading.

I did read the book through, wanting to give Lardo a chance with a character and style that would be difficult for any author to pull off. Lardo tries hard to capture Archie's sparkling wit and wardrobe, but just can't quite manage it. It is definitely a case of comparing apples and oranges, and while Lardo truly did an admirable job under the circumstances, for me it was a painful read. I was constantly aware that Sanders was not the author, and the few flourishes of foppism that Lardo injected seemed stilted and awkward to me. The storyline was only so-so, which was also the case with Sanders' McNally, but it was just more obvious this time around.

I'm not saying this is a bad book in any way, but readers expecting Sanders' trademark style will be sorely disappointed. I wish I had read the cover more carefully before buying this book. Fans purchasing this book should be aware that it is NOT Sanders' McNally.

Summary: A late bloomer but still nice.
Review: I will probably continue to purchase and read the McNally series, even though Vincent Lardo is no Lawrence Sanders. This book is amusing in parts, but I think Mr. Lardo must have written it with a copy of "Bartlett's Quotations" in one hand because there are more cliches than you can shake a stick at.

Summary: McNally's Folly
Review: I've read every Lawrence Sanders book written, and absolutely loved the Archy series. I was devastated when Lawrence Sanders passed away, wondering if I'd ever enjoy Archy's antics again. The last book, and McNally's Folly were both throughly enjoyable. I just can't get enough of Archy, Al Rogoff and all the zany characters in Palm Beach. Mr. Lardo does an excellent job of carrying on a storyline that makes me smile and giggle out loud at Archy's little adventures. If you're a McNally fan you won't be dissappointed with Vincent Lardo keeping Archy alive. P.S. The Hampton Affair by Vincent Lardo is also excellent. I'm looking forward to his new one coming soon, and hopefully some more of Archy McNally.
