Rating: Summary: Read the book inspite of the tv movie! Review: The made for t.v. movie was not even close the charm and warmth of the book. Every review written here is right on the money with regard to the book. Please don't judge the book by the movie, the only similarity between the two is the title. I have no clue as to why CBS deviated so far from such a wonderful story of a man coming to grips with growing older, self-fulfillment and the importance of family.
Rating: Summary: The Miracle for Patterson is that this got published Review: The only good thing you can say about this book is that it is extremely short. Seriously you'll finish it in an hour and half at most. If you can withstand the boredom to stick with it that long that is.I think if Patterson hadn't already made a name for himself as a sensational author, and the publishers didn't know anything with his name on it would be eagerly snapped up by readers, then it would have been returned to him in the mail with a letter of rejection. There's no story here, or miracle for that matter. It's just the tale of a guy named Travis McKinley who is having marriage problems and gets fired from his job who follows his dream of playing professional senior citizen golf. Nothing exciting happens along the way, the book is just a description of a few different golf games he plays in. If you're really into golf this may be for you but if you're not give this one a miss. Patterson's other books however are brilliant, buy them instead.

Rating: Summary: Good Book Quick Read! Review: This book was a pretty good read. Im a golfer so I could relate to the book, its an inspirational story about a man whos life is falling apart all around him and suddenly he can play golf with the best of them. So he decides to take a shot at the Senior Tour, and low and behold he makes it. Its a great book and very touching. Its not your typical Patterson book but I enjoyed it none the less.
Rating: Summary: A Nice, Light Summer Vacation Book Review: This is the first James Patterson book that I have read. Soon I will start the Alex Cross series, but after reading some of the great classics of English Literature I needed an entertaining break. This 150 page story was perfect. I liked it for the same reasons that I liked John Grisham's Skipping Christmas. It was so REAL. Travis McKinley reminded me of so many people that I have known in my life and even a little bit of me. I'm also a big fan of the first person narrative. It will only take you three or four hours, but it's as good or better than any summer movie or book out there. Have fun. Oh and I'm not a golfer, this story can be enjoyable for everyone, even those with a very minimal understanding of the game of golf.
Rating: Summary: Golf conquers all. Review: This small novella, is a total departure from Patterson's typical works. The writing style doesn't even match. However, I found the story very enjoyable. Hal Linden read the book on cassette. Being a 52 year-old avid golfer from Chicago, I could relate to the story's main character.

Rating: Summary: Everyone will take up golfing after this one! Review: This storyline makes you believe in the underdog.... It inspires even the non-avid golfer to try it, or in general, the overall message. Don't give up.... It's a great short story from the master of suspense... A great change of pace form the Alex Cross master!
Rating: Summary: HEARTWARMING STORY OF ALL KINDS OF MIRACLES........ Review: Travis Mckinley is just your average guy...; he hates his job in advertising, his marriage is on the rocks, and he loves golf. When he is unceremoniously fired from his job, a fabulous round of golf played at his local course is the catalyst that drives him to living his dream of playing in the Senior P.G.A. tour. So he flys off to Q school to begin living his dream, leaving behind unemployment and a disintegrating relationship with his physician wife Sarah.
Travis arrives--but so do many other avid golfers who aspire to be the next Jack Nicholas and have the $3,000 enrollment fee. But the gods are smiling on the Mckinelys; could it be that Travis could actually out-stroke some of the greatest golfers ever to play the game? Could he win the tour, all that money, and perhaps receive the greatest gift of all--the restoration of his family??
Read the book to find out, although it doesn't take an Einstein to conclude the obvious based upon the title of the book. Although I found this a somewhat interesting tale, I believe that to truly appreciate the story one must truly appreciate the game of golf--as do obviously the authors, although unfortunately I do not. Many readers may find themselves struggling with the terminology used within the game. All in all, a serviceable story with an even better lesson. Don't be afraid to take chances, in this one life that we all have to live. Take a gamble on life, and on love.
