Summary: Great Story
Review: Karen Robards is an excellent contemporary romance writer. She is one of my favorites! This is another enjoyable read.

Carly Linton returns to her hometown to her grandmother's home. She is going to turn the home into a bed and breakfast hotel. She brings with her, her best friend and cook , Sandra. When Carly left town she was a flat chested girl with brown curly hair. Carly returns with breast implants, blond hair and an entirely new attitude.

When Carly and Sharon first arrive they think they have run into a burgler. They tackle the burgler and try to run away. After being tackled to the ground, Carly comes face to face with not a burgler, but Matt, the local sheriff. When Carly left town, she had a big crush on Matt, who at that time was the town's sexy bad boy. Carly is still pretty pissed off at Matt for taking her on one date to her prom; having sex with her and then forgetting about her. Matt on the other hand cannot believe how much Carly has changed, and the old sparks start to fly. Still, things are not quite what they seem. A murder has occurred in town, and somehow is connected to Carly. Carly and Matt will have to work together to find the killer, that is if Carly doesn't kill Matt first for dumping her all those years ago. This is a wonderful story. The characters kept me chuckling until the end. I would highly recommned.

Summary: Sultry Southern Suspense
Review: Karen Robards is truly a master of the romance genre, alternating from historical to contemporary novels. Her latest suspenseful novel takes the reader to the small town of Benton, Georgia, in the heat of the summertime.

Carly Linton has returned to her hometown to claim the old home she inherited from her deceased grandmother. Ready to start anew, she has journeyed with friend Sandra from Chicago, as they plan to open a bed and breakfast leaving behind memories of painful divorces. But the first familiar face Carly sees is Matt Converse, now the town sheriff, and then, the childhood friend who slept with her after prom and ignored her afterwards. It is said that there is a fine line between love and hate, which would clearly explain Carly's simmering anger, even after a twelve-year period.

When the two women take up residence in the old mansion, they decide to install new locks and a security system, convinced that a burglar was present the day they arrived. The suspense builds, as both Carly and Sandra still seem fearful of the dark old home, and the possibility of an intruder seems both imminent and certain.

But the real crux of this read is the attraction between commitment-phobic Matt and Carly, delivering some really steamy love scenes. Still, the likelihood of a lasting relationship between the two seems to strain credulity. Though they practically grew up together, the evolution of their personalities over the past twelve years seems to be forgotten as bedroom scenes begin before they even get to know each other again.

That withstanding, the suspense packs a powerful punch amidst the sultry Georgia summer nights. Hints of dead bodies, crimes of long ago, and a murderer following Carly catapult this read into a sizzling page-turner. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition

Summary: When did Ms. Robards get so crude.........
Review: Ms. Robards used to be one of those authors I picked up by name alone. Not anymore.

I want to know when Ms. Robards got so crude. It seems she has lost the meaning of the word romance. I do not consider the word f--k romance. She even tried to pass it off as a pray once. Give me a break. I also think "No good, dirty, rotten, SOB" used over thirty times a bit much.

If your looking to capture the romance, try Ms. Robards earlier written historicals. She new how to write then.

Summary: By chapter 5, I was in a coma.
Review: This book could have had a plot. It did have a plot-for the first chapter. But then it took a way-wrong-turn and disintegrated into one continuous self-centered whine.

Can't remember when I disliked a character as much as I disliked Carly Linton. I started to hate her because of the way she treated (or mistreated) her poor cat. Negligence in the extreme. Cat lovers won't like that.

Matt Converse did her wrong twelve years ago. So she hates him, but she wants him, but she hates him. He's a creep, but he's a hunk, but he's a jerk, but he's a hunk. Imagine those sentiments repeated over and over for three hundred and ninety-four pages.

If you like shallow, silly twits, and you don't like cats-this is the book for you.

Summary: No where near Ms. Robard's standards...
Review: This book was not one of Ms. Robards' best.

For quality reading and an idea of Ms. Robards capabilities as an author pick-up the any/all of the following:

Night Magic
Walking After Midnight
Ghost Moon
Hunter's Moon

The end of the book left quite an opening for a sequel. Who know's, it may be worth reading.

Summary: No where near Ms. Robard's standards...
Review: This book was very engaging-I will give it that, but it was just missing a mere more sophistication. The teasing sex scenes are great, but they just all lead up to what is to be a very predictable conclusion. A very light, fast read if you feel like losing yourself in a little romance and heat and don't care that your mind may actually shrink, instead of expand once the book is done.

Summary: Whispers at Midnight
Review: This book...WOW- it was wonderful! i literally couldnt put it down! I have read it, and reread it about 10 times! i still havent gotten tired of it! by fall the best romance i've read in a LONG time. Matt Converse sounds intruiging, a hottie, and adorable. Carly Linton sounds fiesty, pretty, and hard headed. I just loved the scene where she pours the lemonade over his head. i couldnt stop laughing! usually the heroines are submissive, quiet, and annoyingly pretty. Carly actually admits that she's not a supermodel, and that she got plastic surgery (i doubt she'll ever tell that to matt!) his sisters were HILARIOUS! they were also so sweet! the tease Matt mercilessly! I'm hoping to find more of Robards books- SHE RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Karen Robards Rocks again....
Review: This is a great book for anyone who likes suspense with a mixture of romance. Its also a bit of a comical romance. Out of Robards contemporary romantic suspense books this one is my favorite.

Summary: Waste of time!!!
Review: This is my first review for Amazon and unfortunately it's covering a HORRIBLE book. If you're thinking about buying this book, DON'T! The first major problem is a factual one: contrary to what the book jacket and most reviews are saying, the dog does not dig up a body; he digs up an object that belongs to the victim. We don't learn about where the body is buried until page 389 (hardcover edition). The book ends on page 394! The publishers should be ashamed. As for Robards' writing: There wasn't a consice sentence in the book! She's very wordy. The author eventually "gets to the point" in the final pages, as if she suddenly realizes she has to end the book in the next 20 pages. The ending is rushed and a letdown. And let's not even go into the relationship between Carly and Matt. Robards does a good job setting up Matt as a "never-to-forever" type of guy, but she never lets us hear HIS point of view on why he finally is willing to love Carly as more than just a sister. You never get a sense of when his feelings turn true and are not viewed as a responsiblity. And I got tired of reading about how conveniently all of the characters manage to end of at the same place--usually Matt's kitchen--at the same time. If you make it to the end of the book, you'll be so frustrated you'll want to scream. I'm just glad I didn't waste my money as well as my time...I borrowed the book from the library. The book wasn't even worth the trip.

Summary: Fast-paced and fun
Review: This is one of Karen Robards better novels. She gets better with time. The romance is sweet not sticky. The dialogue is humorous and realistic. It's a great, fast-paced story, and the characters: Matt and Carly are so very likable. I especially sympathized with Matt, a womanizer saddled with two lovely sisters, and now an equally lovely and surgically enhanced ex "girl" friend.

Robards writes a good story with a contemporary voice. I prefer her contemporary novels to her historical novels. Along with this book, I also recommend: Walking After Midnight, To Trust a Stranger, and Hunter's Moon.
