Rating: Summary: Waste of Money Review: I own and have read all eight books in The Left Behind Series. The Mark was truely the biggest waste of time and money I think I have ever made. All Filler.
Rating: Summary: OK...... Review: I said I wouldn't write another review, but I guess I opened my mouth only to change feet. I'll be up front and say this is a biased review. This is because I'm a born-again Christian that believes in a dispensational interpretation of the Bible. This means the Bible needs to be interpreted literally unless it clearly says otherwise. Why would God, the creator of the universe, leave confusing figurative directions to eternity? That said, you'll like the book if your beliefs are down this alley. If you're hard-core atheist, you won't like it. If you don't like literal Biblical interpretations of Revelation, you could go either way. The writing isn't great, but it keeps the story moving (slowly at times) and I admire an author who is willing to mostly stay within literal Biblical parameters and who gives a CLEAR picture of Biblical salvation. But for me, the downside is how unbelievable the characters have become. Yes, with God all things are possible, but you'd think they live in between a Boeing jet factory and a used car dealership. As more characters are followed, the scenes tend to shift more abruptly, hurting the flow. And I have to agree with others that more and more time in each book is spent in review, which draws out the series. Still, with my biases, I enjoyed it, my son enjoyed it, and it makes for interesting discussion among people of diverse backgrounds. Also, these later books in the series still beat the movie by a wide margin.
Rating: Summary: The Best Yet Review: This is the best Left Behind book yet.It shows us christians and how we will be persicuted in the end of days.It is accurate in the ways of the Bible.I recommend this to anybody looking for a good book.
Rating: Summary: It's all gonna end and it might as well be my fault Review: These books are horrendous, an insult to real authors and books everywhere, I can only think of one other book that is this bad and has sold as many copies. That book by the way, would be the bible. I don't believe in Heaven or hell, or god or the devil, I believe in the weasel way, money, and myself. That having been stated let me get on with the review.Tim and Jerry can't write. They pray on two things about you. Your wish to be better than your neighbor, and your fears. You fear being left behind, the same way a small child fears the monsters in the dark. My fear is that this series will someday overtake the earth, and we non-believers, will be sent to a cave to live in the darkness, because we don't fit with your lifestyle. But you know what? That still doesn't make Tim and Jerry Chuck Dickens....
Rating: Summary: The Left Behind Series: Book 1 - decent,, Books 7+ horrible Review: ... While not a conservative Protestant or of any religious denomination that would prefer this series, I gave the Left Behind books a chance because I enjoy fictional interpretations of Revelations (or any apocalyptic themes for that matter). I find it hard to believe that the authors have written a Left Behind collection for children when you consider that the "adult" novels are nothing more than teenage reading material. The characters have developed into boring figures. Often full of the author's own views on what is right; absurd situations such as the 30 year old journalist hero a virgin (Sounds tacky, but if you're a 30 year-old male and still a virgin, you're either gay or impotent. Welcome to the real world!) or ridiculous events concocted by the authors to describe literal interpretations of Revelations. It never fails, every minor character in the series suddenly reappears as a devout believer. Nobody, and I mean nobody, that the authors haven't already designated as the Antichrist or his legions will end up on the "wrong" side. It's funny to see that the world somehow has large amounts of infrastructure (power, water, internet, etc.) when the entire planet is crumbling and losing vast majorities of its population. If there is one positive note on the series, it is that they are VERY QUICK reads. If you want some temporary brain candy to take you away from your immediate situation, by all means, delve into the Left Behind series - but there are many examples of extended fictional series that have so much more to offer than this one. I borrowed the first 6 books from a friend and purchased the most recent two. I would leave that as my advice for anyone interested in this series. Borrow the books. ...
Rating: Summary: Stretching the Series Review: All of the previous books held your attention and the action moved. This one re-hashed the previous stories too much and had little action. The last book (I hope) will wrap everything up, or do they intend to keep on and on? This will be the last one I read.
Rating: Summary: Boring! Review: I realize the Left Behind books are best-sellers, but frankly I can't see why. They are BORING! The plot lines are unrealistic, the characters are plastic, the Anti-Christ is unbelievably stupid! It makes it boring for we poor readers, as well. I will probably read all the Left Behind books but for people who haven't read them, don't even start.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: This was the most disappointing book in an otherwise excellent series. The authors seem to be stretching Biblical truth to fit their storyline. Perhaps success and financial reward has tainted their ethics. Unfortunately, followers of this series must read this book to stay current in the series. Hopefully, the next book in the series will see a return to the previous standard of excellence.
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the ninth! Review: Wow! I don't think I've ever read a series of books that have left me so impatiently waiting for the next instalment. I still can't believe that I've got to wait another five months for it! These books are amazing! If you need to have something to hold you over until the ninth book, try We All Fall Down by Brian Caldwell. A wonderful book on Revelations that finishes up in one book. It made the wait a little easier for me.
Rating: Summary: Suspense! Review: As a teenager, I'm not into reading a lot as I'm always busy. This year, my friends and parents kept begging me to read the books. "They're so good." So I borrowed the first one from my friend. And I was then faced with the challenge: What if the Rapture happened today? I kept reading and within a week had read all 7 books, up to The Indwelling. When the next book came out, I was so excited. Finally I could figure out what happened to Chloe, Buck, Rayford.. so on. I was not expecting such a good book, however. And with the gillotines and the mark... I am so waiting for the next book. Anyone over the age or 13 would love these books. If you haven't read them, I would strongly urge you too read them. You're missing so much! Even if you're young, and say, "These are for adults.", you'll find yourself loving these characters. I speak for millions of people that have fallen captive the the suspense and emotion in these books.
