Rating: Summary: Brilliant plotting, hilarious, touching, scary, satisfying! Review: Lisa Scottoline has done it again - crafted an immensely satisfying legal thriller with a strong heroine - this time Mary DiNunzio's cohort - Judy Carrier, a woman with "crayon yellow" hair, a golden retriever puppy, and more balls than the macho Italian killers she finds herself pitted against. This book has all the blockbuster elements - action, suspense, romance, legal surprises, and smart dialogue - effortlessly combined into an entertaining read that kept me awake nights. I especially loved her tough, smart heroine who nevertheless made very human, and sometimes very feminine decisions at surprising times. Lisa Scottoline takes you on a very fun ride with this one. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: This is a wonderful book. Scottoline's best so far. The other books I have read by her were good, but this one is superb. I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: The Kindhearted Jury Review: THE VENDETTA DEFENSE, By Lisa Scottoline This is a very good story of Pigeon Tony, the other Tony's and one Frank by a writer with a sense of humor. Her humor extends to her new green Volkswagen. I like them to. Aside from that, Judy Carrier, the heroine, defends Pigeon Tony in a murder court case. It contains enough Italian roughhouse and gunshots to make it very interesting. Frank, Pigeon Tony's grandson, provides Romance. I'll give her three stars for a good book. This is another lawyer book written by an experienced attorney. If I get into trouble I would like to have the jury she helped select. Maybe it would be worthwhile telling what the stars rating means to me. First I will not waste my time reading a book that is less than good (three stars). Four stars would be excellent and five stars would be superior. Some books in my opinion are readable because of the ability of the author to write, even when he or she picks a poor subject. And again a book is good when the writing may be just readable and the outstanding subject, to me, carries the book into the readable and like area. Again, this is personal preference.
Rating: Summary: A taut legal drama! Review: Lawyer Judy Carrier takes the case of her career when she agrees to defend elderly pigeon racer "Pigeon Tony" for the murder of his life-long enemy Angelo Colluzi, on a vendetta that began more than half a century ago, half a world away. The Colluzis want revenge & its up to this gutsy lawyer to secure justice, risking everything, including her life. Lisa Scottoline has written a legal thriller that goes beyond the definition of a courtroom drama. It's a work that defines & distinguishes two almost similar words, "killing" & "murder", & it is in this background the novel is set. This work once again reaffirms Scottoline's position as the "Female Grisham." The Vendetta Defense is a gripping page-turner in the truest sense of the term. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: 5 Star Book Review: This book was superb. It was full of suspense. My favorite character was Pigeon Tony, he makes you feel a range of emotions along with him, spanning over sixty years.
Rating: Summary: not up to par Review: I loved Scottoline's previous books. I found the stereotyping in this book just a little much and it felt 'cranked' out and underpolished.
Rating: Summary: Mama Mia, Philadelphia! Review: This book was full of Italian stereotypes and hilarious at times. I like Scottoline because she seems to really know her law and she uses humor whenever possible. There's a very light dusting of sex, just to keep it sizzling. Well worth the read.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFULLY ENTERTAINING! Review: Welcome to the world of Lisa Scottoline, where the lawyers are anything but typical and little old men fancy themselves as enforcers of family honor....who couldn't love the Tonys, in all of their Italian South Philly glory? Lisa has found just the write blend of suspensful and comedic writing in this tale. Most endearing to me is Judy, that trailblazer of a lawyer who refuses to conform to the rules of socially acceptable "lawyer behavior" and dress. The familiar setting that the story takes place in--Philadelphia and its surrounding Western suburbs--is also something that I found extremely enjoyable, being a local reader. Thanks for the gift Lisa....I'm a new recruit and will now be going back to inhale all of your books!!
Rating: Summary: The Vendetta Defence Review: An ABSOLUTE page-turner. If you are looking for legal suspence and mystery, then this is the book for you. The story is well written, and the characters jump to life off the page. As you read you actually visualize a "movie", with all the drama and intrigue. I swear I caught myself actually running with the character, gasping for air as she runs through the streets of Philadelphia. A definate adventure. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: One of L. Scottolines very best! Review: It would seem that Lisa Scottoline has rediscovered her sense of humor. This book is delightful from begining to end. This is a touching novel that almost everyone can identify with. Moral delima, romance and a great mystery. You will find yourself becoming very attached to the characters. I haven't enjoyed a Scottoline novel as much since her first (very witty).... and I ALWAYS enjoy reading her mysteries! Highly recommended!
