Rating: Summary: A Must-Buy Review: Easily the best poet to come out of the Beat movement
Rating: Summary: The best Beat book. Review: I bring this book with me when I travel. I keep it next to the bed at night. I have spare copies.
Rating: Summary: Full Embodiment of the Beat Spirit Review: Of all the Beat poets, Gregory Corso is said to have been the one to fully show what the Beat Spirit was through his poetry. His poems are entertaining, thought-provoking, and memorable. His visual imagery is astounding - the details he provides in these short poems will blow you away. Corso is rarely given the proper credit he deserves. His poetry is amazing, and if you pick up this book, you'll see why. This book is probably the best collection of poems he has, and two of his best poems appear in this book, "I am 25" and "The Mad Yak."Also included in "Gasoline" is "Vestal Lady on Brattle", an older collection of poems published three years prior to "Gasoline." It's nice to see the progression he made in three years time. They don't differ much from the ones in "Gasoline" and are perhaps just as good. Ginsberg had "Howl." Kerouac had "On the Road." Burroughs had "Naked Lunch." Corso has "Gasoline." Read "Gasoline" to see a perfect example of what the Beats were trying to accomplish through their poetry. I guarantee you'll be itching for more.
