Rating: Summary: a pleasure to read Review: Ulmer's book has become a standard reference work on the topic of the "evil eye" in antiquity. Ulmer systematically researched the corpus of rabbinic literature and cites hundreds of references. According to the Rabbis, the course of Jewish history was affected by the "evil eye". Some Rabbis used an evil eye to reduce their opponents to "a heap of bones." Ulmer's explanations of the phenomena encountered are superb. It is a pleasure to read her excellent book. In short, Ulmer is a fine scholar of midrash and rabbinic literature.
