Summary: A thorough investigation of the "I" in poetry/autobiography.
Review: I am at work on my master's thesis (an exploration of the "boundaries" of autobiography as discourse/genre), and this book has proven to be an extremely valuable resource. The essays collected here not only dive into many aspects of poetry as autobiography (theory and criticism, including Postmodern/Poststructuralist approaches as well as Formalist and Romantic approaches), but they also investigate each genre separately, giving the reader a many-faceted view of what we mean when we write "I." The authors represented in this collection are highly respected and accomplished authors, poets, and literary theorists, yet their writing is conversational and accessible. Highly recommended.
