Review: This is a fascinating look at how one story changes through the course of time. Zipes presents many versions of "Little Red" -- and each change represents a change in the ideas of the storyteller and his or her time and the needs of the listener. Observing the story's progression through the last few centuries tells us much about what we have lost and gained, known and forgotten, desired and feared. "Little Red" becomes a microcosm for the developing individual and social human psyche, as we watch what the cautionary tale cautions us against and takes for granted. A wonderful read for anyone interested in myth, sociology, fiction writing, or cultural development/studies.
