Summary: Homer was a great writer
Review: I read Iliac and Hodissey when I was a child. I had to. It was required in Italian schools to read them. I read them again more recently. They were in my father's attic when I went back to Italy for his death. Homer's characters would be seen today as child-like. The portrait of their emotions is wonderful and deeply engaging. They rely on the adults, their Gods, to help them sort through their emotions and make the decisions. It is as if mankind is seen in its adolescence. Undersanding that Homer may not have been one person but many and that Troy, though a real city which was destroyed by the Greeks, was probably romaticized during the Greek times, helps to understand this wonderful saga of the heroes.
