The story unfolds with the stately predictability of a family tradition. You don't read this one for the plot, you read it for the warm familiarity of ante-bellum Southern life and the changes imposed by "the late unpleasantness."

Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. I found it very hard to put down, and the story telling was amazing. It was also a turn on to me since I am from Hillsborough. I absolutely loved reading this book and then be able to go into town and see exactly where things were. Truely a step back in time for me.
