Rating: Summary: Almost every edition is abridged Review: Dumas's works were regularly abridged by the original English translators...you would never want to read the original version. It's entirely too long. This version is terrific -- I really appreciated the contemporary reviews and the Inspired By section that lists adaptations of the novel.
Rating: Summary: Riveting Tale of Revenge Review: I had shyed away from beginning this book for a long time but after seeing the film version I was intrigued enough to pick it up. Very glad I did. It is without a doubt the greatest revenge novel ever written. The movie, which I enjoyed, doesn't begin to capture the richness of Dumas' plot. Dumas was a masterful story teller and his descripions and language are absolutely wonderful without bogging down the action at all. This is a classic for good reason. It combines all the attributes of great wrting . plot, character development, etc and provides an unforgetttable reading experience.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Riveting Tale! Review: This is honestly one of the greatest novels I have ever read. I absolutely loved this book. I could not put it down! This is a must read for anyone. When I first started into this novel, I had in my memory the 'movie' that was made for the big screen. So of course, I expected the book to be very similar to it. Well, I was very wrong! Other than Edmond Dantes being betrayed by his 'friends' and finding the treasure, this book takes on a different route.Believe me, the book is much more superb. The way the Count exacts his revenge is astonishing. I cannot fathom how Dumas came up with such a scheme. At times, one cringes for the those who wronged the Count. This book made me laugh and cry. There are many poignant moments throughout the book that make you feel good. Anyone who says that Dumas is not up there with the 'classic' writers, does not know what they are talking about. This book is rich in dialogue, mystery, suspense and storyline. All in all, this is an amazing classic, and I recommend it to anyone wanting a good read.
Rating: Summary: Long over short Review: Unfortunately, this abridged version (with no indication of it on the cover) chops out several hundred pages of necessary information that would satisfy the readers' feelings of vindication for the Count. Opt for the unabridged edition to truly enjoy this wonderful, emotional adventure.
Rating: Summary: "They're are only 2 things in this world, hope and waiting." Review: Wow...this book was kind of boring but the thing that kept it alive was Dumas's writing, I mean you know that it him the whole time but I dunno while reading it i felt like i could actually feel Dantes' struggles, very good book, BTW ends different from the movie everyone
