Rating: Summary: Beautiful and useful Review: Bought this last month after reading reviews of several other publications of this type. First of all it is a beautiful journal of just the right size. It feels good, has good paper, has illustrations and they include some quite funny cartoons, as well as historical facts about books and the book world. I don't do book groups, so didn't need anything that would accomodate that. I love the page per book format as I like to jot ideas and vocabulary when reading, or whatever else hits me. I know the pages of "Libraries" and "Book Stores" are at first glance a waste, but I just jot down more book notes there after putting down a few sources of books. After seeing the formats of the rest of the offerings in this vein, I should say that if you are looking for a JOURNAL for your reading, and you want it to be graced by some lovely illustrations and appropriate quotes, buy this and work with it!

Rating: Summary: For all book lover's Review: Crack open the spine and start writing...this book is a must for all book lover's. Why did I wait so long to document the books I've read, the libraries and bookstores I've visited? Your hand will cramp from writing so much, but once it's stored all in this book, all in one place, it will have been worth it!
Rating: Summary: The Best Reader's Journal Review: For close to ten years now, I have kept a journal devoting a page to each book I've read. This is the best "reader's" journal that I have found. Along with providing space to write about each book read, this journal is packed with interesting book-related images.
Rating: Summary: Quite nice, but not perfect Review: Hardcover, unfortunately NOT spiral bound. The divisions in the book are not tabbed or delineated in any way. The pages are lined, with a small, designed margin at the top. The book is punctuated by occasional black-and-white, book-related pictures. Most of the book is given over to the first section, which has page-long entries for individual books. The fields are: Title, Author, Date Read, and Comments, the last of which goes on for the rest of the page. This section will be handy for most uses, I should think, though it's not good if you just want to list books read with no comment, or little comment. Next is the Books to Read section (7 pages' worth), with room for notes on three books per page. Then there's a Books Borrowed section, with room for notes on five books per page (2 pages). Then a Books Loaned section [shouldn't that be Books Lent?], also five books per page and two pages long. Three pages for Bookstore information follows, then two pages for Libraries and two pages for Notes. The book is attractive, not too ornate, which is a good thing. It could be improved by being spiral bound, of course, and, perhaps, by including a section for just lists of books. Also, how many people are going to be writing bookstore or library information down in a book like this? I, at least, won't find those sections particularly useful.
Rating: Summary: Depends on what you want... Review: I bought this to help keep a record of all of the books I read, including the date, title, author, etc. The problem I soon found is that each page is for only one book. It includes all of the vital info on top, but then you have an entire page to write your notes, thoughts, quotes or whatever you'd like. I never have a lot to say and so it seems a waste. I ended up just using each page for mutliple records. So, if you want a journal to record your thoughts as you read the book, then this is perfect. If like me you don't really write a lot, but want a record of everything you've read then this isn't the best book. I guess the key word is "journal".

Rating: Summary: A Reader's Best Friend Review: I purchased this journal from Amazon almost two years back by just browsing the results for a book journal. I can honestly say this is one of my best purchases. This is a hardback notebook with great paper quality. It is no non-sense journal as it lets you play with your own words and does not insert space for unimportant information to make it look fancy. There is a page devoted to each book with a space for title, author, date read and comments. Towards the end of the journal there are pages devoted to make a note of books you wish to read in future, books loaned and an address book for your favorite book stores. The journal also has interesting pictures and notes about popular books and authors. Very highly recommended for people wanting to keep a note of all their readings.
Rating: Summary: Mixed feelings.. Review: Let me explain why I acquired this title - I was looking for a birthday gift for a new young reader, and Christmas gifts for several friends who love to read. Not to mention a way to organize my own reading. Each group has different needs in a book diary or a reading journal. This particular title is great if you want to write detailed notes about a book. Say, for example, you want to write down your opinions about books you are reading for a reading group, or for pleasure (to catch up with the classics, your favorite author, or in a particular subject). If you are looking for a book where you can put down short quick notes or organize your reading by author or by subject, this is definitely not the book you want. Rather, this is a way to record your impressions of your reading over a period of time. (Some of us like to scribble instead in the books we read, but I am not one of those readers). Was this a good buy, my little problem with the copy I received apart? Yes and no. It was not exactly the title I wanted for myself, and not the title I would give to a young reader. Yes, the illustrations were beautiful (based on book printing and publishing history), but I am far more interested in the author's side of things. And I did not want a pricey diary to record my serious reading - I have a good blank diary I use for the same purpose. The book does have a place to record book loans and borrowals, a place to list the addresses of book stores and so forth. For the reader who wants to keep careful notes about what she or he is reading and who is willing to write about a page or so for each book, this is a good buy. For the reader who wants to keep terser notes about books read, or wants to make lists of books to read by subject or by author or by title, this is not the best buy. Now I wish there was a version of this for a child. The lettering was nice and large, but a young reader wants illustrations and quotations from works familiar to him or her, not about the history of book publishing? Are you there, publisher? revised on November 16, 2001
Rating: Summary: The Best Journal I've Ever Owned Review: This journal was given to me by a friend two years ago, and I have loved it. Slipped in between the pages for your notes about the books you've read are fascinating little snippets about the history of reading and book publishing, cartoons, etc. In the back of the journal are places to put books that were recommended to you, books you've loaned, books you've borrowed, names and addresses of local bookstores and libraries, and much more. What a wonderful gift this was. Can't think of a better one for the readers you may know.
