Summary: Not what I expected
Review: Although this book is not for the faint of heart, I bought it for research purposes. I wrote a book and needed information about embalming, corpse preservation, etc. Amazingly, instead of scanning through the book for pertinent information, I read it in its entirety. I chuckled through almost the entire first chapter. Just when I thought "this can't get worse" it did! Arlin Menager's words are not meant to illicit laughter; however, his approach, in writing of something macabre, is done in such a way that the reader has no choice but to visualize the scene in a comedic way. Order the book! Well worth the money!

Summary: I thought I was there
Review: I could not put this book down!! I am a 40 year old female apprenticing to be a Funeral Director in Canada and it is a true to life book on procedures etc.
The sexual parts surprised me a little, but they did fit in with the life of this man. I was not happy with the amount of spelling and grammer mistakes though. I am going to read this book again as I loved it!!

Summary: Not what I expected
Review: I had high expectations, but was grossly disappointed in this book. First of all, it was a novel rather than the informational reference that the reviews and description led me to anticipate. But much more surprising to me was the extremely poor writing which comprised the entire work and even worsened as the end approached. From the beginning, this book contained numerous grammatical errors, punctuation mistakes, misspellings, and even ommitted capitalization on virtually EVERY page. The last name of the main character even was inconsistent throughout the book. I could not believe that it got past editing and into print in this shabby fashion. And the ending was not a cliffhanger, if that was the writer's intention. Instead, it just seemed that he was tired of writing it and so slapped a gruesome, traumatic, and unexplained (or even explored) conclusion on it, to stay in keeping with the title, and moved on. As this was the writer's first attempt at a novel-length story, I truly hope that someone is honest with him about his capabilities and he is steered in another direction.

Summary: Very Discriptive
Review: I really loved this book, however the ending could have been done a little better. The book just ends and not on a happy note. So no Cinderella ending here folks. His editor should be hung there are several typos in the book. But I read the book in two days because I could not put it down. Arlin describes embalming where others have failed.

Summary: after reading.... my expectations died
Review: like mentioned previously, the grammatical mistakes highly irritated me. i just felt like going through each and every page and correcting it with a red pen. i was also surprised that it was even published; even more surprised that i didn't go out and strangle the author after i was done reading it. there wasn't enough actual informational detail on the topic of the book, and being that this was the first book I've read on embalming, which is the career i want to pursue, i was disappointed with the lack of hard-core factual information.

Summary: Interesting reading
Review: This book was very good, I could not put it down. Not because it was a terrific book, but I wanted to see how it ended. I did learn things I didn't know. So for that it's worth reading. If you are interested in mortuary science or the funeral industry, it definatly gives you some insight. It's not for the faint of heart, but it kept my imagination working overtime. Give it a try you may like it.
