Summary: sparklig ethical readings
Review: This book provides a wonderful reading of Joyce's work in the context of his life--particularly his relationships to his mother and his daughter, Nora. Eide does a beautiful job of explaining how feminist ethics works as an interactive dynamic and then showing how Joyce invites interactive reading in his work--both between the characters and between himself and the reader. Eide builds on this sound theoretical base with elegant prose and moving descriptions of Joyce's family relationships and how he viewed his place in the world. This book should be invaluable to Joyce scholars but also of interest to the general reader who either loves Joyce's "Dubliner" stories or is intrigued by this great but sometimes difficult writer. I recommend this book most highly.
