Review: Ms. Clay's book and Seth Benardete's Bow & Lyre, along with Eva Brann's Homeric Moments, are clearly the best studies of Homer if, like Montaigne, you choose books which teach you how to die and how to live well. Each of these books reveal just how beautifully philosophical Homer is and how indebted Plato--and philosophy--is to these epics.
