Summary: 3 Women, a boat and a dog
Review: An admitted fan of the author. Bought this book after reading "Spoonful". Being male, I can not tell you if this is really how these women would think/act. However, for someone interested in boats, it was a good read. My wife liked it as well. See previous reviews for the nitty, gritty details.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the best reads!
Review: Coomer develops characters in such a way you feel as if they are people you know- the issues he addresses are serious, yet he deals with them in a way that is realistic without being "sappy". I have rcommended this book to over 200 people- no complaints yet!

Summary: loved every minute I spent in the world created by the autho
Review: I love stories about interesting women. This book is at the top of my list. Definitely the best book I've read this year. My only regret was that it was so short, I would have enjoyed a few more days curled up with this book.

Summary: May be my favorite book ever
Review: I loved the book so much that I reread it completely a day after I finished it. My only criticism is that I think Charlotte would have had thoughts about her abortion all the way through. Since the book was written in the first person, I think Charlotte should have talked about the abortion sooner, even though it was more dramatic to save it until the end. I loved all the philosophical, religious, spiritual and archaelogical debates and discussions. My husband is encouraged that I might actually sail with him to Nova Scotia since I loved going with Charlotte, Chloe and Grace.

Summary: Nifty Book
Review: I loved this book, and spent part of a long weekend finishing it, since I was reading my daughter's copy and had to leave it with her. All three main characters, plus the setting, are wonderful. My only complaint about the story was the finally revealed secret about Charlotte's relationship with her husband. I couldn't buy that explanation, and felt there should have been some clues earlier in the story.

Summary: Delightful reading!
Review: OK, so this book won't change your life or shake the literary world to its knees, but it was a highly delightful read! Charlotte loses her husband and moves to the coast of New Hampshire to attempt putting her life back together. Along the way is an ugly dog, an unruly teen and a quirky senion citizen. They all live on a boat together and become supportive of one another in their fight to find and be at peace with themselves. Sounds simple, and it is, but Joe Coomer really lays out a lovely story that in parts, makes me cry...and I'm a male!

Summary: I've been touting this book ever since I read it!
Review: This book by Joe Coomer is a lot better than "Apologizing to Dogs" but not as good as "The Loop." As the chronicle of the lives of three very different women, it usually presents a sympathetic portrait but serves up no lasting insights. It is entertainment, first and last.

The final odyssey, where the women go in search of Prince Edward Island, could have taken on mythic proportions but instead passes as a lark, as whimsical as the novel's title. Which reminds me, although the title occurs in the text (during a paragraph of rare poetic writing) what the hell does it have to do with the story? Nothing, as far as I can tell.

Finally the narrator's secret, boiling up like a repressed memory at the end of the tale, isn't nearly as monumental as Coomer plays it -- as a denouement it falls a bit flat. But nevermind, the storyline up to that point and the sympathetic writing make this a pleasing read on balance.

We should ask no more.

Summary: I loved this book!!
Review: This book was given to me as a gift from a friend and I didn't have the slightest idea what to expect. I live in NH, and love Portsmouth, which is a charming town and so I thought it would be interesting from that perspective alone. I didn't know I would adore the characters, the writing style, and laugh out loud. Give it a try, it will touch you too!
