Rating: Summary: More than just a love story.... Review: I believe that both the book and the movie 'Beyond Borders' is being misrepresented by the media and the reviewers. This is not just a love story and that is not the message that we should get out of this book/movie experience. It is a tribute to the nameless heroes who give up their own selfish materialistic needs and are brave enough to love this world enough to be willing to put their lives on the line for the forgotten members of the society (the poor, the refugees, displaced persons, the suffering..). The book describes their plight in a desperate attempt to wake up the rest of us and open our eyes to what we dare not see. The unselfishness and unbreakable spirit of the humanitarian workers serves as a reminder that every single individual has the power to make a difference in this world. Reading this book is a very emotionally charged experience; written with such gritty passion it will make you angry, it will make you cry and most definitively it will inspire you to see the world in a different way. The countries mentioned in the book all share a similar tragedy and their stories will leave you floored and outraged; but it is that anger that will hopefully fuel a change for the better both in your heart and your actions.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I bought this book b/c I heard it had been made into a movie (although I have not seen it, and don't plan on it) and figured it would be a good read. I was wrong.
The characters are poorly developed and I didn't see how any of them formed a bond or connection in any way. There is very little ~ if any ~ detailed description of places, events, or conditions. Hardly anything was established, the plot seemed to jump around from chapter-to-chapter and the main idea of the book seemed to be lost. I would bet there are 1,000 books out there that do this storyline justice, but this isn't one of them.
Poorly written, not very well developed, and not written like somebody who has done their research.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful and yet shocking Review: I read the book of Beyond Borders and then saw the movie. I enjoyed both a lot and was very upset when the movie didn't do as well as I expected. Beyond Borders doesn't mess around. It shows the conditions that the refugees go through. I was shocked and yet inspired by both the book and the movie. Yes, it is also a love story, but that only adds to the story. The fact that these two loved each other so much is beautiful. I am hoping that many people will get this movie when it comes out on DVD and VHS because there really is so much to learn about refugees and misplaced persons in other countries. It makes me thankful for all I have.
Rating: Summary: beyond borders Review: This is a great book. It had me jumping out of my seat during the whole book. If you think the book was good the movie was awesome. Anybody who likes a good read get this book. :)
