Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: Brilliant! A refreshingly original novel with a lot of pace and humour and some fabulous one-liners. It's a raunchy read but at the same time highly entertaining. The heroine, Selina, is an intriguing little minx. Beneath the veneer of callous, vengeful seductress is a vulnerable little girl who has never fully come to terms with the death of her father and can only relate to men on a physical level. Blaming her stepmother, Miranda, for her father's death she seeks to steal Miranda's live-in lover but is thwarted by Miranda's brother, Gervaise whose ebullient charm and teasing sense of humour sneak out from behind the beard she despises. She starts to like him against her will, and when the beard comes off realises she wants him. But he doesn't want her! I thought all the characters were great but I especially loved horny Harry who can't keep his hands off the women. Harris is a controversial writer with a gritty down-to-earth style and a sardonic sense of humour that you either love or hate. The book may not appeal to lovers of conventional erotica and the language is pretty colourful, which may be the reason why a humorous writer of this calibre is hiding away in this genre. Excellent dialogue and some very funny scenes make this well worth a read.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: There is absolutely nothing endearing about the two main characters in this story. The male is a judgmental hypocrite and the female is a conceited twit. When they finally get together, the only explanation for why their mutual hatred turns into "love" is a strong physical chemistry. While there are some funny moments in the story, they don't make up for the detestable characters. I suggest you try another Black Lace novel. This one is terrible.
Rating: Summary: A WICKED SENSE OF HUMOR Review: What I love about this novel is that it credits modern women with a sense of humor and shows how erotica can be made to be more entertaining. Yes, it's hot and often explicit, but there is wit, intriguing characters, and some wonderfully snappy dialogue. The story is told at a cracking pace and there is never a dull moment. I read it cover to cover in the space of a day and then read it again to savor those parts that made me laugh or tingle with pleasure. The arrogant, intelligent and oh-so-handsome Gervaise is more than a match for beautiful conniving schemer Selina who gradually finds her interfering step-uncle irresistible. Their story explores the attractions of mind and sense of humor, as well as sexual chemistry, and though it teeters on the edge of romance, it doesn't tip into the sentimentality that is perhaps better served by romantic novelists. There is no halfway house with this writer. You will either love her uniquely earthy and satirical style or hate it.She gets the full five stars from me!
Rating: Summary: A WICKED SENSE OF HUMOR Review: you were able to act out that mother/daughter hate, competition and agression that had been witheld since the age of 17 ... what if you blame your mother for separating from your father ... and what if you really didn't care, well, then you'd have this fabolously erotic novel ....... Selina, extatic at the fact her mother is travelling overseas for a few weeks launches into her long desired plan, at the age of 21, to completely seduce her stepfather Matt. The seduction, of course, is a foregone conclusion since Selina knows how to make any man's blood boil, what wasn't in the plans though was the unexpected arrival of Gervaise, the long lost brother of Selinas mother who has come to relocate in Britain. What also wasn't in her plans was that street smart Gervaise could smell a rat before he even stepped over the threshold, and, he decides to have some of Selinas sweet offerings as well ... Course everything about the bearded uncle is repulsive to Selina ... and ... well that's the spice of the story .... Typical for the twisted Black Lace type of novel we have a determined strong willed woman who has no fear of doing what when and where she wants even it it ends up having sex with a disgusting uncle as well..... This is fabulous contemporary erotica ...
