Rating: Summary: Absolutely Horrible! Review: Ah, Bliss!! At last, an erotic book filled with stories that don't make single people feel [bad] :o) Most erotic books are written in such a way that you feel lonely if you aren't in a relationship; OR they are written so that you wish you were single if you ARE in a relationship. But I found the stories in Brown Sugar to be a wonderful blend of true erotism, filled with wit and sensual themes. I am proud to say I own a copy of this book. And please know this. You don't have to be African American to enjoy this one. This is a keeper for everyone who enjoys touching, sensual erotism.
Rating: Summary: Where is the sex? Review: I am so sorry, but I can't say that there was anything erotic at all about this book. I was looking for erotica not soft porn. It was like having someone think that they were going to a full-course meal and they were served Ritz crackers.Alpine County, in my opinion was very boring. If I wanted to know about two lesbian that lived until they were 70-something years old I would of watched "If These Walls Could Talk" on HBO. Stupid story, very stupid story. Movie Lover, all it did was talk about what the title suggest, the love of movies. No sex really to speak of though. White Girl Blues, a black man that loves having sex with a white female that has a black virgin as a girlfriend. This story to me goes a little deeper than sex. I feel as though this story was trying to pull a race card. Whatever though, the story was still garbage. Overall, the book was no good. Give me some hot steamy sex that will make pages melt.
Rating: Summary: It was alright, but some of the stories dragged on... Review: I am tired of waiting for the sequel to this book. When is it coming out? I like erotic stories that are not just about the sex, but about the relationships. In this book, I could really see these people together as couples with problems that are resolved through sex; and it came in all spectrums: black with white, black with black, short with tall, caribbean people, sexy albinos, lesbians, French, Africans. I agree with the writer in the spotlight: I too want to see the rest of Nadine's Husband by L. Preston Allen as well as the rest of Deecy and Pheo by Kwame Dawes. What happened to those characters? It can't just end like that. That's one of the problems with short stories, sometimes it leaves you hanging. But I still give the book five stars. Sequel! Sequel!
Rating: Summary: Half the pleasure? Review: I must admit, this collection of stories begins on a high note, but the impact of this anthology work leaves the reader half pleased. I look forward to the second book and the collection of stories written by the selected authors.
Rating: Summary: Thank You, Ms Taylor Review: I must say that it was a great honor to have participated in this anthology, for Carol Taylor selected only the best, the most cutting edge talent in AA fiction. All of the stories in the book shine like polished gems. Each is a unique sliver of light from that vari-colored spectrum we call the range of human sexuality. Each glows uniquely bright. Reginald Harris dreams so lustily, you can feel the heat way over here on the hetero side. Natasha Tarply writes wonderously well, but what does the trick is her use of scent and sound. Jabiri Asim does the same with sexy verse and an agile tongue. Leone Ross' heroine takes us and her lucky lover by surprise when she demands to be taken like a boy--kinky, kinky, kinky, where can a brotha meet a woman like that? Tony Medina is luscious, stream of conscious, libidinous, white panties, joints, cocoa butter, delicious, poeticus--you get the picture. Marci Blackman (deep, deep stuff) preaches sexual and racial politics while she gender-bender pleases (hot, hot stuff) her naive lover. Chris Benson steams it up good and hot with the one who got away--in a bridal salon! RM Johnson's cheating hubby is too hot to let go. Pam Sneed does it with poetry and dildoes and other women. Robert Fleming is hard-bolied, noir, smoke-filled jazz clubs, and slammin Solange, the sexiest African woman in 1950s Paris--his descriptions of her body are so ooh la la!--you can taste it. Lisa Teasley gets all juicy with Stan and Mina, the sexy albino. In Kwame Dawes' lyrical Jamaica, we get turned on before the clothes come off Deecy and Pheo. ALPINE COUNTRY displays Sapphire's phat skill with words and emotions. Michael Gonzales heats us up with his life long sexual obsession, the phine, phine woman India. Diane Patrick makes heatwaves in a slammin tale of race and height. Jervey Tervalon's White Girl Blues is red hot. Lois Elaine Griffith learns that good loving will make you a writer--or maybe that's the lesson I learned. At any rate, I wrote the story Nadine's Husband, which, I am told, is pretty hot too. Thank you, Carol.
Rating: Summary: A delicious real life peek in Black Erotica today Review: If there ever was any doubt in your mind that black erotic writing differs from let's say Victorian, Oriental or Indian (if one could use liscence to classify writings as such) then this book will confirm that belief. Like all compilations of short erotic stories there are some that you will like and some that totally suck. I really enjoyed two of the stories, "Nadines Husband' and 'Never Say Never' In the first story, Pam, the younger sister of Nadine feels quite justified in helping herself to her sisters husband, Johnny, when it was discovered that Nadine was doing her white boss. A delicious story that simply sizzles and certainly rings true to life in my bok. The other great story deals with Diane who may not have a problem in staring a relationship with a white guy but does have a problem with men that are shorter than her. Her ad in a singles magazine brings out an unlikely white candidate for her affections. I loved this story since preconceived barriers are broken after verbal interchanges and mind games which make the erotic story that much more so. After all the critical part of eroticism is that the characters and the readers must have a brain to enjoy the seduction .... The book may not be everyone's cup of tea but then after all that is why it's called Brown Sugar and it's erotic black fiction...
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: This book had so many different elements to it. I really liked All of Me and How I became a Writer. In these stories the women gained strength through there success. Nadines Husband, Responding to her Touch, and Deecy and Pheo were great stories of forbidden love. I enjoyed Hail Mary full of Grace; however, I found it somewhat disturbing. I could no put this book down. The stories are erotic, touching, and disturbing. It is a must read.
Rating: Summary: BAD Review: This book was awful, I would give it 1/2 Star. It is no comparison to Zane's Sex chronicles. Some of the stories were very hard to understand. Some of the stories like Nadine's Husband and Why I became a writer, Were pretty good. I can't say that I would reccomend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Even Good in Texas Review: This is a very good book, very hot, maybe because I am a man. Maybe certain kinds of erotica appeal to men, and other kinds appeal to women. I was under the impression that this book had both kinds. I can't say that I love all of the stories in the book, but I love a few and I LIKE all the rest. It starts off with a bang with NADINE and ends with a bang with HOW I BECAME A WRITER, which is a very touching story. There is not one bad story in the book, and that is rare in erotic collections. You people in Texas, please read it again.
Rating: Summary: Well Done Review: Well written erotica featuring people of color is sometimes hard to find. I was thoroughly impressed with the writting and the content of each short story. This is worth savoring with a loved one or in a relaxed moment with a glass of wine. One of my favorites Deecy and Pheo by Kwame Dawes. Check it out.
