Rating: Summary: Fortune doesn't favor this novel... Review: Elizabeth Adler comes out with another book that misses the mark, but not by much. Better than "Property of a Lady", but not as good as "Leonie", "Peach" or "The Rich Shall Inherit", "Fortune is a Woman" is a stereotypical woman's book. It's "Fried Green Tomatoes" on opium. Francie Harrison is the neglected and abused daughter of a San Franciso millionare, who is the epitome of cold evil. At 18, she is finally free from his abuse, and a saintly waiter takes her in. We can guess what will eventually happen to him. This saintly waiter has a sister, Annie Aysgarth, who is treated like a servant by her distant father. The waiter also has a "best friend" who is bisexual, and murderously jealous. Eventually, the 1906 earthquake happens, and Francie's life is shaken upside down. She meets an enigmatic Chinese man named Lai Tsin, and together, they start a business empire that brings them both riches, while Annie makes her fortune and becomes Francie's best friend. Years later, Francie's hotheaded brother makes trouble for her, and the scene is set for revenge, blackmail, and murder. After all this has occured, Lysandra's story is told, and we see her struggle with her role as a powerful businesswoman who has fallen in love with a tempermental artist. She goes in search of her grandfather's "secret", and then she discovers a wild, improbable story of survival. It's too unbelievable to recommend. Too many men are portrayed as monsterous.
Rating: Summary: One Of My Very Favorite Books Review: I read this book when it first came out years ago & was warned by friends not to cheat & read the end before finishing it(something I never do anyway). The book is such a page turner I was totally shocked by the ending & it left me wanting to read more of Elizabeth Adler's books. If you like interesting, fast moving stories with surprise endings, this is the book for you. Others I'd recommend are Peach and the followup, Leonie. Ms. Adler is a wonderful writer and I always look forward to her next book.
Rating: Summary: The best book I've ever read in my life Review: I've read so... many books in different languages , but this book was something else. Awsome .
Rating: Summary: Change of Life Review: This book changed my life. A few years ago I was in a state of mire, and by reading this book I was able to spring from the ashes of contempt and prosper in the world today. There are many issues in this book that might be hard for some to digest, but if you give yourself time to understand the true mien that this book has to offer, I say that you should enter this reading with all eyes open and to be ready for a truth that even the human soul cannot answer. So much depth and detail surrounds this book and the text is a idol for anyone to see the power of the female figure and the grand mirth one can use the respect the characters in the book hold. A great book for any pro-woyen believer and to those who still look down, a realization will come to you if you read this. So, just read this novel and you'll understand what I mean. Merci.
Rating: Summary: Best book ever!!!!! Review: This book was wonderful. I couldn't put it down and have given it to about ten people. Of course one of the 10 didn't bother returning it so I bought another copy which I am putting away. I even had my Grand-daughters read it while they were visiting and the both really enjoyed it also.

Rating: Summary: Pa. reader....what a twist..shocking, I never imagined Review: This is probably one of the best books I have ever read. It spans over many decades. It's the story of Francie and her friend Lai Tsin. They meet after the great San Francisco earthquake. They are both homeless for their own reasons and develop a friendship that lasts a lifetime. Together they become multi-billionaires but still haven't found the happiness that they both deserve. This book is so powerful it is impossible to explain all of the different storylines that all come together. Read this book and you'll read it again and again.
