Rating: Summary: want to read a bad sitcom? Review: Classic case of inventing a catchy, oh-so-cute title, then inventing a story to go with it. As usual, with painful results. The author ought to be writing sitcoms, because she shouldn't be writing books in sitcom style. They're rather different media, sitcoms and books, but the author is blissfully unaware of this. The heroine is not very likable, and the neurotics around her are over the top -- too, too much. When you have no real story, create neurotic supporting characters, that's the rule isn't it? Skip this one, do something else with your life.

Rating: Summary: My Fav Book Of All Time! Review: I don't even know what to say, this is my fav book I have ever read, and it has to be good for me to finally write one of these reviews. I won't give a little synopsis on the book since there are already a few of those. But you guys have to get a copy of this book, and if you don't want to buy one, at least get it from the library, its definately worth the trip!
Rating: Summary: Predictable but definitely entertaining Review: I have never written a review but I felt that I had to save someone else from wasting their money on this book as I did. ... ... Reading this book made me realize I have been wasting my time "not" writing that book I've always wanted to write. If this is the standard that publishers are looking for then I am confident I can surpass it. Some reasons why this book bugged me. 1)It was predictable. 2)I hated the way she tucked all the action and dialogue in these passsive narrative sentences. All the good stuff was summed up in two or three sentences and all these inane insignificant details were expanded upon beyond belief. 3)The sex starved best friend and father dating old highschool rival sub plot was boring and unrealistic. 4)Rebbecca was a terrible role model. She made a big deal out small issues-having to a wear a tacky outfit to a nice restaurant in Paris- and the big issues-like the fact that her boyfriend lied to about having a child-didn't seem to be that much of a concern to her. Heed my warning people, even if you see Apocalipstick in a sale bin for $.99...buy yourself a coffee instead. It will leave a better taste in your mouth.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious Review: I just happened to spot this book out of the corner of my eye at a bookstore. . .and i am glad i picked it up. This book is loaded with character, amusing characters, and and fantastic humor. There are very few books out there that can make me really laugh!!! This was one of them.
Rating: Summary: Hmm Review: I read Neurotica recently by this author and thought it was first rate and was desperate to read everything by her. Turns out Apocalipstick is a rather flat follow up. The protaganist is not very believable and as for the plot about a face cream that makes people go crazy and could cause a world war ... well, it's flat out stupid. I kept reading this because I thought it would improve. It's not terrible exactly, just a tad lacklustre. Where Neurotica could be compared to a freshly roasted chicken stuffed with fresh herbs, Apocalipstick is merely a reconstituted chicken nugget.
Rating: Summary: So-so, predictable plot Review: Sue Margolis's "Apocalipstick" deals with Rebecca, a beauty columnist whose ambition is to become an investigative reporter. Her chance came where she was approached by a former staff of one of the biggest cosmetic company who told Rebecca about an anti-wrinkle cream which contains illegal chemicals which would cause its users to "tell the truth." At the same time, Rebecca is dating Max, who works with Rebecca for the same magazine. Also in the picture are Rebecca's best friend, Jess who was having problems with her husband's lack of sexual interest, and Lipstick, who was her high school friend and now going to be her stepmother. The plot is very predictable and you can sort of guess what is going to happen very early in the book. It is one of those books that is not very memorable and the characters could be develop more. However, it is still somewhat entertaining, especially dealing with Rebecca's friends, Jess and Lipstick. This two characters provide some humorous scenes. I wouldn't specifically recommend this book especially since there are so many other better ones out there. If you are a big Sue Margolis fan, this is still somewhat entertaining but just don't expect too much.
Rating: Summary: Worst book I ever read Review: The plot of "Apocalipstick" is generally predictable -- even the occasional curve ball (ie: Lipstick actually loves Rebecca's father) isn't of much interest. Still, there are a few redeeming qualities to the book. In Rebecca, Margolis has created an interesting character, who, despite being a bit on the fantastic (in the old sense of the word) side, is relatable to "real life." Max, too, is oddly believable despite his larger-than-life persona. Rebecca's friend Jess is a great addition as well, because despite being completely unbelievable she is also completely entertaining. Even the premise of Rebecca's investigation into the bizairre Mer de Reves face creme is fun to read. I picked up this book expecting "chick lit." Not terribly cerebral, not terribly poignant, but entertaining. Unsurprisingly, that is precisely what I got. But this endorsement also comes with a warning: graphic and unnecessary sex scenes pop up in the strangest places in this novel!! There is quite a bit in here that I was shocked by -- and I've read it all. More likely than not, Margolis was simply trying to direct her book at a more mature audience (the premise and the writing are rather elementary) by throwing these in. Ignoring those sometimes startling scenes, this was in fact a fun book to read. My biggest criticism? There was positively no wrap-up at all, as the book ended suddenly just pages after an also-sudden climax.

Rating: Summary: cute and oddly entertaining Review: This book was entertaining... it was light, fun and very easy to get through. As chic-lit goes, it won't be at the top of my list but nonetheless it's okay by me. I liked the characters, but I thought it odd that Max would tell her the lie about the "goddaugther", the reason for it didn't really grab me..that was a bit far fetched. Still it's fun.. pick it up and see what you think.
