Summary: A Timeless Romance!!
Review: This novel is the story of Alexa Byrnehouse and Jess Davies and their rather interesting path to marriage and a family. It serves as one of several installments of this family's saga. It does have many "soap opera" plot elements...everything from love triangles to well-guarded family secrets. Anita Stansfield approaches these in a nice way, I think. Adressing rape, infidelity, abandonment, vengence and murder is not very easy without introducing graphic detail, yet she manages to do it. I'll be honest...I was able to easily guess the outcome and plot twists (except for one) well before the author introduced it. Also, I did find the story a tad ridiculous when it came to the family situation. I also found some elements quite "convenient" to bring about the final outcome. There also seems to be a lack of regional interest (the story is set in Australia). Despite all that, I really, really enjoyed this book! Let's face it...this is a work of fiction, an invented story...and the romance in the story is actually realistic, despite some of the outrageous circumstances. There are no graphic sex scenes, though it is implied and referred to when it does happen--all of which (except for referring to previous family indiscretions) happen within the bonds of marriage. The author does address several moral issues (such as sex before or outside of marriage) in a genuine manner that make the story unique from many romantic novels.

This book is written by an LDS author, and can be found with other LDS fiction books. This book, however, does not mention religion at all, except for occasional references to prayer.

Again, I really enjoyed this book. It flowed well, despite the unusual circumstances and almost unbelievable plot. Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. Any book that demands my attention from cover to cover without sleep deserves 5 stars. I rarely read a book in which I get that involved. Is this the *best* book I've ever read? Certainly not...but it is a fun book, a fun story and well....why not? This book is worth picking up if you are in the mood for a romantic escape, or if you have a day or to to kill. After reading this book, I went out and got the sequel, "Gables Against the Sky." I also enjoyed the sequel, but that's for another review.
