Summary: Wanted to like it...
Review: This book rings false. Katherine Weber probably tried really hard to pull off this Alcott thing, but her "plot" and phrasing is quite off.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A joy to read!
Review: This is the third of Katharine Weber's novels. I read and enjoyed the first two, but this one has taken a huge leap in its masterful control of the story, its language and chacterization. Wow. I agree with the previous reviewer that it's wonderful to read and I too will be recommending it to my own book club.

In my own books I underline things I especially like and I find that I am doing that on most pages of THE LITTLE WOMEN. There's always something witty being said and said beautifully. Weber evokes the world she's writing about perfectly. I feel as if I am really there and that I know these three sisters. They way she has them bicker happily back and forth is wonderful. I highly recommend this emotionally satisfying and beautifully written book to you. Even the painting portrayed on the dust jacket's cover fits perfectly! (and I loved the original LITTLE WOMEN so it was a tough act to follow, and I'm glad Weber did not try to copy it totally but rather just be inspired by it).

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: hilarious and witty
Review: This novel is just the perfect read for anyone who has ever loved the Alcott Little Women, although readers who don't know it can still enjoy the novel. There are sly allusions to the Alcott book on every page, however. And it is a particular treat for the aficionado who grew up mesmerized by this beloved book, convinced (as I was!) that she is Jo or one of her sisters. What a perfect book for a book group discussion! Makes me wish I belonged to a book group for sure. Now I want to read her other novels.
