Rating: Summary: Read this book and find your place in this world..... Review: .......especially if you are just starting out (your life that is) and things arent looking too good. I read this book about 14 years ago when I was 17 living in Kashmir and not in a very positive frame of mind. It was an amazingly inspirational experience reading this book... It is an amazing epic that definitely has had an influence on my life, although I don't know what all to attribute to the book but certainly an impossible amount of positivity - that has even weathered and survived the market conditions during the current dotcom demise... The Green King to this day remains my favorite book of all time...
Rating: Summary: A thouroughly enjoyable plot, a one sitting read. Review: Ever have that opprotunity to take a long read along on a vacation...The Green King is a story of a man and his dream, a dream to build a nation where there once was none. In his quest he faces Nazis and beuraucrats, two great evils and defies the first but not the latter. A reclusive Multi-millionaire/billionaire it brings to mind Howard Hughes eccentric legacy and crosses it with Broffman ambition. A book strikingly similar to a Archer or Clancy in it's ability to make the character and the idea come to life. If you see this book snatch it up. It may be a long read, but one of the most enjoyable and enticing of any I have ever had. A true treasure.
Rating: Summary: Undoubtedly 5 stars !!! I would give even 10, 20 stars !!! Review: I have never EVER read anything better ! I haven't found any other book which has the same influence on me and on my life. The first time I read it ~4 years ago being in Russia in Russian language. And of course I re-read it couple of times since that because this is a kind of book you can't read just once -- you want to enjoy it again and again. You read it when you're having a black strip in your life, when you feel that everything you do is not good enough and you've got to do something right now but you don't know what and how. And this book gives you necessary strenth and confidence, it helps you to see the world as it is and your role in it, it virtually forces you to take control over your live again. The first time I read this book being in Russia in Russian language. Many things passed off since that time. Well, I live in Australia now and still cannot forget the story I've read in my "previous life". And I'm still trying to find it in English. And another thing I'd like to do is to meet Paul-Loup Silitzer and express my appreciation for this marvellous story, so detailed, so real and... so implausible. I hope it will happen one day...
Rating: Summary: #1 book in my collection Review: i read The Green King in its Russian translation 12 years ago and it remains my most favorite book... i still keep it and it is much beaten up by now... i can definetely say that the power of this Sulitzer musterpiece was a major factor in shaping my adolesent character... now i am grown up and unfortunately find it impossible to have a strong figure in my life who i would want to be like, but there is something in The Green King that will make you either rediscover the feeling or help find it for a first time....
Rating: Summary: After 12 years, this story still inpires me Review: I read The Green King over a decade ago. It has been, and still is, one of the biggest influences of my life, supplying me with perseverance, humility and strength. I can't believe how one story has been able to continually provide me with lessons about who we are, accepting what we have, and taking action in a way that is a win-win for everyone involved. It has taught me that everything we do has an impact, eventually, on everyone else in the world, so we should choose how we do things with care. This book is about a man who is stripped of his identity and possessions, and reborn. He then manages to be the richest man on earth, through a very unconventional path. He can create from nothing, illustrating the point that it is not what we know or have, but how we take action that determines our power. He also know the power of contribution - that the only way to truly be successful is through creating a platform for others to win. Finally, he embodies integrity - the glue that binds all that he has relationhips with to be fiercely loyal to him. I believe that I am in the process of changing the world. I am the head of a successful company now and have not sold myself out to get it there. This lessons from this book was a guiding spirit of how I shaped my relationships to get this company to where it is today. I am fortunate to have this book cross my path. I will feel more fortunate if if crosses my path again, because I have since lost it! (It's in one of my college boxes in my parent's storage room - I know it- but I still haven't found it when I go home to look for it)
Rating: Summary: A great thriller of survival and ambition Review: Rescued from a concentration camp, the young survivor Reb Michael Klimrod works his way to America, where along the way, he takes vengeance on his former Nazi persecutors, and continues his education of survival in the brutal conditions of the Amazon. His rise from rags to riches is a credible panorama of sense, perseverance and courage. While Sulitzer too commonly weighs his books with sexual content, its appearance here finds perfect harmony in the physical and spiritual power of wealth among its several characters, as a vital component of Klimrod's sheer will. A human book as well, with Klimrod's struggle with his emotions, his ambitions, his beliefs and his dreams, all are quite human in their embrace. This book satisfies on a number of levels. An excellent read, a great translation, and a considerable testimonial of human effort. 5 stars is only an understatement - a wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: #1 book in my collection Review: The Green King is my all-time favorite book. I read it for the first time when on vacation in Aruba in '85 and have read it at least three times since. I found a first print in hardcover and it is the jewel of my book collection. Reb Michael Klimrod's journey from a nazi death camp to the richest man in the world without anyone knowing him is remarkable. The detail that Sulitzer maintains in his book of the men that kept this secret is breath taking; the web of financial companies and transactions is exhilarating. This is a great book for anyone that enjoys high finance and a desire to fulfill a dream. 5 Stars are not enough for this book.
Rating: Summary: The best thing could never happen Review: What I wouldn't do to get this book published again. One of my ongoing personal tasks is visiting used book stores and grabbing every copy of this book I can find and loaning them out - I first read it 5 years ago, found it at some youth hostel in europe and couldn't put it down in my travels - I kept looking forward to train rides where I could just read non-stop! If you're stateside - write down the author's name and keep it in your wallet - start searching used bookstores near you - good luck, and keep on sharing books!
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Of All! Review: When I first read "The Green King" i was alittle bit intimadated by how big the book was. Then after reading it for awhile I could'nt put it down. This book is a wonderful story full of emotional twists! I recomend "The Green King" to everyone!
