Summary: great book!
Review: Kristin Billerbeck's What a Girl Wants is one of the best books that I have ever read. It's a comical novel that anyone can relate to. You won't want to put this book down.
What a Girl Wants is about a thirty-one year old patent attorney, named Ashley Stockingdale, who is searching for what God has in store for her life. Ashley has the perfect job, car, apartment, and clothes, everything that a girl would want for her future. The only thing that she doesn't have is the perfect guy. Ashley hasn't gone on a date in six months, and she is beginning to wonder if this is God's plan for her life, to be single. But suddenly, she gets asked on three dates in the same week. Throughout the book, Ashley comes to realize that she doesn't like what her life has turned out to be. "What a girl wants is God's will for her life. Nothing else even compares."
While reading What a Girl Wants, it felt like I was right there with Ashley. I laughed and cried with her because it was so easy to relate to her. It's something that every girl goes through in her life. I would recommend this book to anyone! I loved this book and I can't wait to read She's out of Control.

Summary: Funny and Real
Review: As I scanned to see what novel I would like to read during my holiday break, this one caught my eye. As I read the summary on the back, I couldn't help but relate to Ashley, the main character. It was refreshing to laugh about all of the circumstances that Ashley experienced, especially when I could relate.
I was very drawn to this book because of the importance of how we have desires and dreams as Ashley does.... but as a Christian, those center around the most important relationship and purpose of our life, Jesus. You see in this book the battle of having an understanding of our own desires, and the willingness to hand it over to the Great Creator who made us!
I recommend this book to anyone, no matter what stage you are in life. I was glued to it, and I have never laughed so much out loud when reading a book. It's a keeper!

Summary: Couldn't put it down!
Review: I bought this book because it looked interesting and because I knew it wouldnt have some "colorful" language in it like some books. I could not put this book down I think I had it read in 2 to 3 days and I have a little one at home so that is pretty fast! Wonderful characters that will suck you into to their "world". This is a must have for all christian gals!

Summary: Suprised me
Review: I bought this book thinking that at least I would have something to read. I was surprised to find that the character in the book actually thought a lot like I do; resolved to live independantly with the Lord but then the emotions get involved and you forget momentarily. The male characters are a lot like my friends; totally involved in video games and the Matrix, not realizing that there is a world out there or that there is even a girl in the room. I had lots of laughs and would recommend this book to any girl who wants to find humor in the men of this world who haven't got a clue. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel like someone finally understands the struggle to stay truely devoted to God when it's so easy to just find a man to marry. I give this book five stars.

Summary: Awesome chick lit!
Review: I got into chick lit about a year ago and found it hard to believe there could be quality Christian books of this genre. What a Girl Wants proved that to be false. It is wonderful. It's amusing and capitivating. I can't wait for the sequel.

Summary: I can't believe I like Chick Lit!
Review: I never thought I'd like chick lit, but I started "What a Girl Wants" two days ago and just finished tonight! I loved Ashley Stockingdale for her imperfections, her bouts of selfishness, and her humanness. While I know nothing of Prada handbags or designer clothes, I could relate to Ashley's search for meaning and purpose in her work and life. There are many words and phrases in this book that you'll never see in other CBA publisher's fare, and, yes, there will be some that will find a way to be offended by it. But the truth is, this is real life. Christians are imperfect. We struggle with the same issues as Ashley and pray that God will hit us with the proverbial 2x4 so that we'll eventually get it right. Ms. Billerbeck showed all too clearly the single's struggle to find her/his place in a world of couples and marrieds...of our often seesawing emotions, musings, and heartaches over being a Reason or a Season...and of dealing with imperfections and prejudices. Yes, the girl gets the guy, but not your typical Knight-in-Shining-Armor. There is hope for the average Joe and Jane! Now off to read "She's Out of Control!"

Summary: Great book for single Christian girls!
Review: I really enjoyed What a Girl Wants, and found myself sympathizing with Ashley in her challenges as a single Christian woman. I myself am young and married and liked it, but I have single friends I would more highly recommend this book too. The book didn't just enrapture me and pull me in to where I couldn't stop reading (but maybe that was because I couldn't relate as well). Still, it was cute and light-hearted. I might read the second one, just to find out what Ashley's up to now.

Summary: Faith, faults and fun
Review: I think this book will raise a few eyebrows - especially to those who are a religiously leagalistic and or uptight. You know, the same folks who get mad when folks wear jeans to church, or when the Pastor doesn't wear a tie.

The author gives us a refreshingly honest character who is flawed (as we all are -even if we don't admit it) and details her life. Shock! Ashley (heroine) is a wee bit judgemental...she's thinking things that we think but we would never tell anyone, and she struggles with love, and her faith. I am 43 years old and married for 26 years, with three sweet grandbabies, and yet, this book entranced me, delighted me, and made me smile.

What A Girl Wants is an honest look at life. It's staying on my shelf. But I think a few copies for my daughter, daughter in-law, sister, church library and local library are in order.

If you have a sense of humor and understand the human angst that accompanies free will...well, you'll love this page turner!!
I look forward to book two!!! Hurry up Ms. Billerbeck!!

Summary: Multi-state read: Was that Illinois?
Review: I took Kris Billerbeck's What a Girl Wants on a road trip to Minnesota and promptly lost multiple states. I was oblivious to rainstorms, howling winds, traffic tie-ups on Interstate 90 in Chicago (just gave me more time to read) and food stops. Okay, I really did notice the food stops, but the book stayed with me!

What a delightful read. Billerbeck handled the setting and story line with an ease that made Ashley's turmoils flow realistically. As a bridal consultant, I've seen Ashley's name-dropping nature countless times. Billerbeck and WestBow deserve a pat on the back for breaking the mold of Christian literature, giving an alternative to predictability.

Summary: a fun but fluffy read
Review: If you're looking for good literary Christian fiction that's spiritually deep and makes you think, keep looking. If you're looking for something full of fluff and fun to read in the bath or on the beach, this novel and its sequel are great.

I could sometimes relate to Ashley and enjoyed the book and getting to know the characters, but all the obnoxious brand name-dropping and pop culture references really got annoying and made Ashley seem incredibly shallow and superficial, not to mention vain and self-absorbed. Maybe that was the point, but I expected that at some point she would realize the conflict between following Christ and following the world and that she would be more concerned about being a slave to righteousness than a slave to fashion.

In the chick lit genre, I prefer the Robin Jones Gunn's Sisterchicks series and Neta Jackson's Yada Yada Prayer Group series.
