Alongside her delving into brutal events and grotesque facts that she has witnessed, we also follow the story of Hope's failed marriage. That the characters of the primates in this book are nearly as well-developed as the humans is due to the fact that Boyd received assistance from Jane Goodall, the famed primate researcher.
