Summary: The Women's Murder Club
Review: Tell the police about the crimes from The Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson and kill somebody else from 3rd Degree.

Summary: A Great Blizzard Read
Review: The Women's Murder Club is a fun series and this book is no exception. A fast read, perfect for a blizzard Sunday. My only gripe is that "August Spies" was a mystery until the prof told Lindsay. I mean haven't they heard of google?

Summary: Vengeance & Tragedy
Review: The Women's Murder Club is put to task in investigating the multiple murders that have hit their city. In James Patterson's 3rd DEGREE, we are reunited again with the four women who make up this unique investigative team. The third book of this series by Mr. Patterson along with Andrew Gross has produced another winner.

Lt. Lindsay, while jogging one morning, suddenly witnesses a house explosion that rocks the neighborhood. She endangers herself to rescue the remaining survivor, a child, and soon discovers that another family member, a baby, is missing. At the scene, a message is left behind giving all indications that this is just the beginning. After another deadly incident, questions and concerns arise if this is the act of a serial bomber or terrorist group. A priority search is on to find the missing baby and the motive behind the deaths.

The FBI and Homeland Security Deputy Director Molinari, assigned to collectively bring the perpetrators down quickly, join forces with the San Francisco homicide unit headed by Lindsay. The investigation takes twists and turns along with more deaths and messages left behind. Lindsay brings into the investigation, the Women's Murder Club consisting of Claire, the medical examiner, Jill, the assistant DA and Cindy, the news reporter. Although their hands are full, with many leads to follow up, there are other issues that soon surface involving Lindsay's attraction to Molinari and a hidden secret revealed by her friend, Jill that leads to tragic consequences.

3rd DEGREE by James Patterson and Andrew Gross does everything that it was supposed to do in creating a great mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat every step of the way. The storyline combines fast-pace, intense action, and intrigue intertwined among the primary and secondary characters that keeps you pondering to the final scene. Although the ending will bring mixed feelings and tears, the love and loyalty of the Women's Murder Club will live on.

Summary: Pulse-Pounding Suspense
Review: Third in the Women's Murder Club series, (1ST TO DIE and 2ND CHANCE), Patterson's latest finds Detective Lindsay Boxer of the San Francisco P.D. witnessing a horrific bombing of a residence after her morning jog. The residence belonged to Morton Lightower, a CEO of X/L/Systems, who made money from selling stock in his company the same day that his investors lost money. Lindsay's subsequent investigation of the crime becomes more significant when her journalist friend Cindy Thomas of the CHRONICLE begins receiving threatening e-mails from the purported terrorists signed "August Spies". As more prominent, well-to-do businessmen are killed, Lindsay seeks to find a connection between the crimes, as her search leads her to Berkley and its revolutionary days of the 1960's.

Suspense is never in short supply, and Patterson has added an element of romance when the Deputy Director of Homeland Security, hunky Joe Molinari, arrives in town to work with Lindsay and put together the pieces of this fascinating criminal puzzle. With global leaders heading to San Francisco for a G-8 conference, the feds and S.F. P.D. work closely together to apprehend the culprits behind the anti-establishment terroristic threats in a pulse pounding race against time. Author Patterson's short, on point chapters hold the reader's attention until the last page is turned.

Summary: Enjoyable, fast-paced read...
Review: While I was in the emergency room with my son yesterday, I pretty much started and finished the book 3rd Degree by James Patterson and Andrew Gross. This is the latest installment of his Women's Murder Club series, and it was an enjoyable read.

Detective Lindsey Boxer is jogging along one day when the house she passes literally blows up. She rushes in to save a child, but three other adults die in the fire. She quickly determines that it was not an accident, and the killer(s?) has left a manifesto demanding the reform of corporate greed. Shortly after that explosion, another prominent businessman dies by a massive overdose of rictin, and the city knows a terrorist organization is on the loose. They threaten a G3 economic summit meeting in San Francisco in a week unless their demands are met. The race is then on to find out who the killers are, and what motivation they have for what they are doing. The subplots involve (among other things) Lindsey's budding romantic involvement with the deputy director of Homeland Security who is also on this case.

Fast-paced writing, with really short chapters which keep you thinking "just one more chapter, then I'll put it away". Plenty of character development, and he makes some good points on how the "have nots" of society are ignored and exploited by the "haves". While you quickly learn who some of the killers are, you are kept in the dark about motives until the end. Good stuff. I also find it interesting how Patterson (a white guy) writes novels with main characters who are black (Alex Cross) and female (Lindsey Boxer). Not often that you see a writer go cross-cultural AND cross-gender.
