Summary: It Was Just...OK
Review: "FAST WOMEN" by Jennifer Cruise didn't really tickle my fancy. I found it very hard to keep up with all the characters, mainly because there was just so much going on.
I didn't find it to be a mystery nor quite a romance either. At one point it became very repetitious and extremely drawn out.

When Nell Dysart and her husband of 22 years get a divorce she finds herself weighed down by depression. She decides to accept a position as a secretary for a bedraggled detective agency. Nell sees some promise in this little business, envisioning changing it into an office of perfection.
Her boss, Gabe McKenna has just been dumped by his ex-wife for the second time, and is in constant argument with his cousin/partner, Riley, about the same tired cases. Nell steps in and puts his life in order, claiming herself as an efficient, sharp and intelligent woman... thus in the beginning they develop a love/hate relationship.

A murder case brings them closer together, also tying all the characters in as well. The mystery of the book did not leave me in suspense, and the romance aspect of it did nothing for me. There was more talk about a stolen dashund puppy named SugarPie/Marlene, and some ancient family china.

Overall I give this book 3 stars for the effort put forth.

Summary: FAST WOMEN; fast read.
Review: A fairly common complaint is that FAST WOMEN is not WELCOME TO TEMPTATION. Personally, I think that's a good thing. True....TEMPTATION is an excellent book. So is WOMEN. They're very dissimilar, thank heavens. Frankly, I get tired of the "cookie cutter" characters when an author finds a format that's selling and refuses to stray from it. Crusie gets edgy and isn't afraid to break away from the pack and FAST WOMEN reflects that break.

Nell Dysart has been dumped by her husband of 22 years and with the help of her two sister-in-laws, is groping for a new life. Due to a few twist and laughable turns she finds herself working for a couple of detectives in their antiquated office that she immediately decides to update,(the office, not the detectives) but not before she has innocently managed to create even more damage. By the time she has made changes in the office she has also dug through the tough shield that the #1 detective, Gabe McKenna has shrouded himself in.

Crusie developed a novel that is pure feel-good entertainment and serves up plenty of opportunities to laugh out loud. As an added bonus the reader gets to try and figure out the mystery that is brewing throughout the book. It's not heavy reading, but who wants that on lazy hot summer days? If I want to dig into WAR AND PEACE again, I'll save that for those long, dreary winter months. Until then, I'll grab every Crusie book as fast as she can turn them out.

Summary: Good book, Fast read
Review: Fast Women is a mystery, romance, and funny novel all wrapped into one. The book was drawn out a bit, but still kept you interested in the storyline. Jennifer Crusie is definately a very talented writer. I've read all of her novels...check out Welcome To Temptation after you read this novel.

Summary: Fast women? Very slooooow book!
Review: Fast women, you say? I say very slow book. I cannot believe that this book was a New York Times bestseller.

Is this what readers have come to? And "writers"?

You will learn nothing from this book. Take that back: You will learn something about crockery, is that what it's called? Plates and such. Spode, etc. Is this of interest to anyone? People who cook, maybe? I hate to be politically incorrect but sometimes there's no other way to be? Could this book possibly appeal to women? I guess!

But, hold up, chum, isn't the value of a novel in its emotional impact, not what you may learn from it?

Emotional value. Oh, Nell is a beautiful person, ambivalent about everything but you gotta feel for her. She's got a good heart. Plus, she's smart. Well, if Gabe likes her, why shouldn't we like her?

Trevor? He's a fool, obviously. How can you like a fool? Are there such fools, for real, in Ohio? Where in Ohio? Well, that is not ours to know (it's on a need to know basis, as they say, and you don't' need to know). There is not one jot or one tittle of local color in this book. The word "Ohio" is only mentioned once. This could be "anywhere" Ohio, but it couldn't be "anywhere" USA, because in most parts of the country something happens. In this book's Ohio, nothing happens.

Gabe and Riley? Sensitive males? Heck, they're getting theirs, but who in the heck are they? This is never explained.

Margie, Suze (is that Suzie or Suz?), Jack, Stewart, who else?

I know! It just came to me right now. People like this book because it's simple! It's all talk and no action! What kind of person is going to like this book? I don't know. I did not like it. It was bunk. Diximus.

Summary: I keep trying and she keeps letting me down...
Review: I couldn't go much further after the heroine kissed her best friend before she kissed the hero of the story. And did I mention her best friend was NOT A GUY. How weird is that?

Also, don't even bother reading the jackets of Crusie's books. They go into great detail about the supposed main characters who immediately take a back seat to the rest of the story. She writes in depth about her secondary characters. I just don't get it.

Summary: Favorite Book!
Review: I loved this book! I must have read it at least 8 times! The characters really grip you and when their heart breaks or when they discover something new in the mystery, you're right there next to them feeling the same emotions.
If you like romance mixed in with some mystery, this is a must-read!

Summary: THIS BOOK WAS LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY
Review: I really enjoyed reading my first Jennifer Crusie book. I was kind of sad to see the book come to an end. I loved it and now I am online trying to buy other books by this Artist.

Summary: Fast Women--Fast Reading!
Review: It's amazing how Jennifer Crusie can write book after book that reaches out and pulls you into a fascinating world of off beat characters. In Fast Women, Crusie introduces three women, all going through some type of personal crisis. It starts out with Nell, a woman who worked by her husband and helped build his business and career from the ground up. Just when their child is grown and the business successful beyond expectations-you got it-he dumps her and ends up marrying a younger woman. Nell has spent 18 months struggling to get her act back together. Now she ready to resume her life with a new job. Unfortunately she picks a detective agency to apply at recommended by her former brother-in-law. Her interview and what can happen is hilarious. Her boss is Gabe, a strong dynamic force that wants things done his way, not Nell's way. The battle begins.

Next up is Suze. She's the child bride who married a man twenty something years older than she. You would think being wife number three or four, you would have a clue this man wasn't the type to be faithful. But no, Suze hasn't a clue because her man has stayed with her after she turned thirty, unlike with the previous wives, so it must be true love. After fourteen years of marriage, she's still being treated like the child bride. Suze wants to be independent and make her own money, but hasn't the faintest idea how to go about it since hubby has always taken care of her.

The last friend is Margie. She's the rich daughter who had witnessed the traumatic death of her mother. Margie's husband skipped out on her after embezzling over a million dollars from daddy's firm. Margie hasn't seen or heard from hubby in over seven years, yet she refuses to declare him legally dead. Why? She might just have to make some decisions in her life-something she's not good at.

While Fast Women doesn't sizzle like Crusie's last novel, Welcome to Temptation, I found it to be just as good. The three female characters make the perfect group. If you haven't met one of them, you've heard of someone just like them. There's romance, sex, and mystery in this novel. Give it a read, it's worth the time.

Summary: Fast Women is Fast Reading
Review: Jennifer Cruise is a new author to me - and I am happy to have found her!
Fast Women is a funny, romantic novel, with a female mystery sleuth to boot. Several times I laughed out loud, and there were times I choked up too.
Nell Dysart has just left her old job, house, husband, and is wandering through life on auto pilot. She takes a job working for the McKenna Investigations agency, and the adventure begins. Not only does Nell find her life again, but some pretty funny moments with her ex sisters in law, her new bosses, and a thirty year old mystery to solve.
Marlene (aka SweetiePie) the long haired dachshund is a hoot!
Great light-hearted reading.
