Rating: Summary: A book written for entertainment does just that. Review: This was a very fun book I give it an 8. Thunder is about "the end of the world" or at least the world as we know it when a time displacement brings dinosaurs to the present time. It follows 5 or 6 plot lines with different characters in each one. Some cross paths and some do not. I found each plot line to be enjoyable and worth being included in the book. I had no problem following the different characters and plot lines as they switched back and forth. Switching from one to another is common and works well here.
This book was written to entertain people and it did that for me very well. If you like dinosaurs and or time travel stories try this book. Critiquing it as you would a Shakespeare play is pointless. Complaining about the dinosaur names or that the time displacement explanation was absurd just shows that some people have too much time on their hands. Read an encyclopedia next time, this is fiction. Not being able to follow the plot lines shows a lack of reading comprehension. Try taking a remedial reading class
Rating: Summary: Awsome! Review: This was one of the best dinosaur books ever! It had mystery, action, and not to mention a good theme. Time displacment is a great theory! Excellent!
Rating: Summary: A true disaster story Review: Those who accuse James F. David of using an idea that has all ready been done, have not read the book. This science-fiction thriller is one hundred percent original and once again gives full credit to the meaning of its genre. In addition, this book is also written in the format of a good disaster movie. Good characters, amazing plot, and a powerful concept, Footprints of Thunder is an ode to David's talents.
Rating: Summary: Strong opening, weak ending. Review: When I first found this book, I was very excited. Finally a novel of promise, set in my home state of Oregon.
I enjoyed the concept of time shifts and the use of the paranormal, i.e: objects falling from the sky, appealed to my fascination with the bizarre,
however, before long, the "suspension of disbelief" required of all readers of Science Fiction, begins to fall apart. This occurs about the same time as the plot develops holes big enough for a T-rex to walk through. Also, It seemed to me that the author doubted his readers could pronounce the long names of the various dinosaurs inhabiting his world, so he didn't even attempt to place names to most of the dozens of creatures that simply get labled as a "carnivore", "monster" or most descriptive of all, "dinosaur".
I suppose I shouldn't be too critical, after all this is a good first novel, it's just that I had higher expectations and was sadly disappointed that this novel did not meet them.
My biggest disappointment, and chief complaint, would have to be the very weak and that's being kind, ending to this overdrawn and redundant "short-story". The last third of the novel "builds" to the climatic ending
that will right this most unnatural of natural disasters, and guess what, the last two chapters following the "big fix" show the world is basically the same. Chapters 69 and 70 seem a lot like chapters 16-68.
On the bright side, several chapters have merit and were entertaining, but for the most part, the book falls flat. I would wait to pick this one up at a used book store for 40% of cover.
Rating: Summary: It's the end of the world as we know it... Review: Who cares if it's "scientifically realistic" or if dinos had teeth! This is fun, apocalyptic escapism. I couldn't put the book down! Ok, I'm a bit partial to a "hometown" boy, but James F. David can spin a fantastic yarn, and his characters are sympathetic and believable. Not to mention a plot that's simply a rollicking good time! :) Try his other books, too!

Rating: Summary: Dinos and bikers Review: Wow. This one is a zinger. Time warps, dinosaurs, rapist bikers, gun toting killers. Slow down! Please! There are lots of dinos in this book, and I like that, but man, do they ever get shot full of holes. This book is action-packed to a fault. Nuclear bombs going off, shoot some more beasties. Okay okay okay already. I think I prefer Hopp's Dinosaur Wars, where the creatures are a little better described, the humans aren't so nasty, and the action is just as fast-paced. Still, you can't complain about David's imagination. A page turner.
